Kwatsha's Five-Wicket Haul Not Enough as Sonning Fall Short at Wokingham

Zanoxolo Gift Kwatsha's impressive five-wicket haul wasn't enough to prevent Sonning 1st XI from suffering a defeat against Wokingham 2nd XI in their Division 2A league fixture at Wokingham Cricket Club. Despite winning the toss and electing to field, Sonning's chase of 225 fell 73 runs short as they were dismissed for 151.

Kwatsha was the standout performer for Sonning, returning figures of 5-43 from his 13 overs, including 4 maidens. His disciplined bowling helped restrict Wokingham to 224 all out from their 52 overs. Mohammed Zahid provided valuable support with 2-29 from his 9.2 overs, while Peter Higginbottom and Daniel Longridge claimed a wicket apiece.

For Wokingham, Mack Keast top-scored with a well-crafted 53 from 70 deliveries, striking seven boundaries. Jacob Clark contributed a vital 46, while Mushtafa Mushafa added a quickfire 33 that included four fours and two sixes. Anthony Clapham (34) provided a solid foundation at the top of the order.

Chasing 225 for victory, Sonning's innings never gained momentum as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Connor Wardlaw (17) and Mohammed Zahid (18) made starts but couldn't convert them into substantial scores. Zanoxolo Gift Kwatsha briefly threatened with an aggressive 18 from 17 balls, including four boundaries, before falling to Jacob Clark.

Michael Longridge offered the most resistance with an unbeaten 29, striking six boundaries during his 47-ball stay. A late flurry from Aadil Khan, who smashed 23 from just 18 deliveries including two sixes, added some respectability to the total, but it wasn't enough as Sonning were dismissed for 151 in 34.4 overs.

Jacob Clark was the chief destroyer for Wokingham, claiming 5-52 from his 15 overs. Ayush Tyagi provided excellent support with 3-17 from 4.4 overs, while Cameron Prentice chipped in with 2-35.

The 73-run defeat leaves Sonning rueing their inability to build substantial partnerships during their chase, with the highest stand of the innings coming between Michael Longridge and Aadil Khan, who added 46 runs for the final wicket when the match was effectively beyond reach.
