Scorchers Chase Down 104 with Ease as Jones and Jasti Star at Peppard Common

Sonning U15 Scorchers produced a commanding all-round display to defeat Peppard Stoke Row's Under 15 Maharajas at Peppard Common on 28 May, chasing down a target of 104 with six overs and four balls to spare in this BYCL Under 15 T20 Blast West fixture.

Peppard Stoke Row, having won the toss and elected to bat, made a solid start through captain Scott Reyburn, who struck three boundaries in a brisk 17 off 20 balls. He and William Davies put on 30 for the opening wicket before Reyansh Setia broke through, bowling Reyburn to give Sonning their first breakthrough. Davies grafted his way to 12 off 30 deliveries before George Rothermel had him bowled, and when Setia struck again to remove Harry Kind for just 2, Peppard found themselves 45 for 3 and in need of a rebuilding effort.

Alex Kind provided exactly that, playing the innings of the match for the home side. His 30 off 25 balls, laced with three fours, was the top score, and he shared a crucial 32-run stand for the fourth wicket with Trystan Davies (10). However, Edward Jones ripped through the middle and lower order with a devastating spell of 3 for 3 from his two overs, dismissing Kind — caught behind by captain and wicketkeeper Neil Jasti — before bowling both Davies and Sam Noltingk in quick succession.

Elias Haidari then applied further pressure at the death, trapping Louis Warner lbw for 3 and bowling Lucas Hambleton for 5 to finish with 2 for 13. Emmanuel Syddall remained unbeaten on 6, but Peppard could only muster 103 for 8 from their 20 overs. The Scorchers' bowling attack was impressively disciplined, with Tom Wolfenden's three overs including a maiden costing just 13, and Arnav Duvvuri conceding only 10 from his three.

In reply, Sonning lost opener Kishan Akula for 8, caught by Syddall off George Craven with the score on 13. Duvvuri and Rothermel then steadied the innings with a fluent second-wicket partnership worth 33 runs. Rothermel struck three fours in his 16 off 16 balls before being caught by Alex Kind off the bowling of William Davies, bringing Sonning to 46 for 2.

Duvvuri continued to accumulate, reaching 19 off 24 balls with two boundaries before being run out by Trystan Davies with the score on 63. His departure brought skipper Jasti to the crease, and what followed was the decisive passage of the match. Jasti and Tom Wolfenden combined for a blistering fourth-wicket partnership of 36 runs that effectively sealed victory. Wolfenden was particularly aggressive, smashing four fours in a rapid 18 off just 10 balls before falling caught by Harry Kind off Louis Warner with the total on 99.

Jasti finished unbeaten on a superb 28 off 15 balls, his innings featuring four boundaries as he guided the Scorchers home. Charlie Koslicki saw out the remaining deliveries alongside his captain, and Sonning reached 106 for 4 in just 13.2 overs, securing a comprehensive victory with plenty of overs in hand. The win was underpinned by an exceptional bowling performance in the first innings and confident, attacking batting throughout the chase.
