Rothermel's Fifty and Jasti's Four-Wicket Burst Seal Scorchers Victory at Kings Field
Sonning U15 Scorchers produced a dominant all-round display to defeat Wargrave in the BYCL Under 15 T20 Blast West fixture at Kings Field on 11th May 2026. After being asked to bat first following Wargrave's decision to field at the toss, the Scorchers posted a commanding 147 for 4 from their 20 overs before bowling the hosts out for 112 in just 17 overs to claim a comprehensive 35-run victory.
Captain Neil Jasti set the tone from the outset, striking six boundaries in a blistering 29 from just 16 balls at the top of the order. Opening partner Kishan Akula complemented him with a brisk 15 off 11 deliveries, the pair putting on 34 for the first wicket before Cooper Robinson broke through, bowling Akula and then dismissing Jasti to leave the Scorchers 51 for 2.
George Rothermel then took centre stage with a superb innings that would prove to be the cornerstone of the Scorchers' total. Coming in at number three, he compiled an unbeaten 51 from 43 balls, lacing six fours in an innings of excellent timing and judgement. He forged a crucial 81-run partnership for the third wicket with Shreyas Koppole, who contributed a measured 28 from 40 balls. This stand effectively took the game away from Wargrave, and Rothermel retired not out having steered his side to a highly competitive total.
Wargrave's bowling figures told a tale of inconsistency. While Hardik Dhallam was outstanding with figures of 3-2-2-2, including two maidens, the other bowlers struggled for control. Laurie Handcock conceded 44 runs from his three overs, including eight wides, and the hosts leaked 23 extras in total — 14 of them wides — which undermined their efforts in the field.
The Wargrave reply started promisingly as Advik Gupta and Hardik Dhallam put on 52 for the opening wicket. Gupta struck four boundaries in his 23 off 21 balls, while Dhallam continued his impressive personal match with 22 off 25 balls, hitting three fours. Dhruv Purushotham added 14 as the home side reached 79 for 2, still in the contest.
However, the Scorchers' bowling attack tightened its grip through the middle overs. Koppole made the crucial breakthrough, having Dhallam trapped lbw and then inducing a catch from Joesph Dowse, taken by Ishan Jithendriya, to finish with figures of 2 for 10 from his two overs. Elias Haidari bowled with admirable control, returning 2-1-2-1, while Pranoy Ramankandath removed the dangerous Purushotham, bowled for 14.
The match was settled in emphatic fashion by Jasti, who proved just as destructive with the ball as he had been with the bat. The Scorchers skipper claimed four wickets for just five runs from his two overs, including a maiden, ripping through the lower order. He stumped Freddie Tabrah with Ishan Jithendriya behind the stumps, had Laurie Handcock lbw for a golden duck, bowled Cooper Robinson first ball, and then cleaned up Rowan Searle to complete a devastating spell. Wargrave's innings collapsed from 105 for 5 to 112 all out, with their last four wickets falling without a single run added to the scoreboard.
The Scorchers' victory was built on the twin pillars of Rothermel's composed half-century and Jasti's match-defining all-round contribution of 29 runs and 4 for 5, though the generous 41 extras conceded by Sonning's bowlers — including 32 wides — offered a reminder that there remains room for improvement with the ball despite the convincing margin of victory.
