Longridge's Seven-Wicket Haul Outdone as Sonning Chase Down Chiswick's 166

Sonning Cricket Club's Sunday 1s secured a convincing four-wicket victory over Chiswick at Riverside Drive Sports Ground, thanks to a commanding half-century from Shamitha Widanapathirana and disciplined bowling performance led by Daniel Longridge's remarkable seven-wicket haul.

After winning the toss, Sonning captain Charles Astwood elected to field first, a decision that ultimately proved successful as they restricted Chiswick to 166 all out from 45 overs. The Chiswick innings was built around substantial contributions from captain Glayson Baptiste (45) and Peter Nathan (44), who formed the backbone of their batting effort.

The star of the first innings was undoubtedly Sonning's Daniel Longridge, who delivered an exceptional bowling performance, claiming 7-67 from his 16 overs. His victims included the dangerous Peter Nathan and several middle-order batsmen, with three of his dismissals coming via stumpings. Toby Fitton, Isaac Blakey, and Alexander Fleming each chipped in with a wicket to complete the bowling effort.

Chiswick's Naveed Malik offered resistance with a determined 28, but regular wickets prevented any substantial partnerships from forming. Their innings concluded with Tim Yates unbeaten on 14 as they were dismissed for a competitive but below-par total.

In response, Sonning's chase was measured and effective. Openers Charles Astwood (24) and Matthew Calhoum (31) provided a solid foundation before Shamitha Widanapathirana took center stage with a match-defining 51. Widanapathirana's innings proved crucial as it kept Sonning ahead of the required rate.

William Travers contributed a valuable 19 while Jamie Boshier added 10, but it was Alexander Fleming who guided Sonning home with an unbeaten 17. Despite Chiswick's bowlers taking regular wickets - with Naveed Malik claiming 2-45 from his nine overs - Sonning reached their target with four wickets and plenty of overs to spare, finishing on 168-6 from just 30 overs.

The victory highlighted Sonning's all-round strength, with contributions from multiple players with both bat and ball ensuring they overcame a spirited Chiswick side in this friendly fixture at Riverside Drive.
