Burnham's Silva Shines with Century as Sonning Crushed by 131 Runs

Mishen Silva's explosive century powered Burnham to a comprehensive victory over Sonning in their Division 2B encounter at The Memorial Ground. Silva's 106 off just 89 balls, featuring 13 fours and 3 sixes, was the cornerstone of Burnham's imposing total of 233-9, setting up a 131-run win as Sonning could only muster 102 in response.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Sonning made an early breakthrough when Mohammed Zahid's sharp fielding ran out Usman Ilyas for just 4. Despite this promising start, Burnham steadied through Muhammad Ammar Arshad, who crafted a patient 54 from 93 deliveries, providing the foundation for Silva's later onslaught.

Bobby Malik was Sonning's standout bowler, returning impressive figures of 4-57 from his 15 overs, including the key wickets of Farhaan Khan, Arshad, Adnan Shabbir, and Hamzah Afzaal. Mohammed Zahid provided valuable support with 2-33 from his 11 overs, but Silva's aggressive batting ensured Burnham posted a formidable target.

Silva's innings was particularly destructive as he dominated a 76-run partnership with Arshad and later added 52 with Afzaal (24). His century came at better than a run-a-ball rate, and included several powerful blows into the boundary boards before Peter Higginbottom finally had him caught by Michael Longridge when Burnham had reached 227.

Sonning's reply began cautiously with captain Peter Higginbottom (12) and William Hibberdine adding 42 for the first wicket. However, once Farhaan Khan broke through to bowl Higginbottom, the innings unraveled dramatically with three more wickets falling for just eight runs, leaving Sonning reeling at 50-4.

Hibberdine fought valiantly, scoring 49 and forming the backbone of Sonning's resistance with seven boundaries. He found support from Connor Wardlaw (31), the pair adding 43 for the fifth wicket to briefly raise hopes of a competitive response. However, once Wardlaw was caught off Nadith Samarappulige's bowling, the remaining wickets tumbled rapidly.

Farhaan Khan proved to be Burnham's bowling hero, returning remarkable figures of 8-38 from 12.2 overs. His devastating spell included dismissing five Sonning batsmen for ducks as the visitors were bundled out for just 102 in 33.2 overs, falling well short of Burnham's total.
