Sabres Post 144 Before Bowling Out Pinkneys Green to Secure Comfortable League Victory
Sonning U13 Sabres produced a dominant all-round display to defeat Pinkneys Green by 50 runs in the BYCL Under 13 Challenge (Tier 2) East on 19 May 2025. After winning the toss and electing to bat, captain Ishan Jithendriya's side posted 144 for 6 from their 20 overs before bowling the hosts out for 94 in 19.2 overs.
Charlie Koslicki set the tone at the top of the order with a fluent 29 from 30 balls, striking seven fours before retiring not out. He and Jithendriya put on 27 for the first wicket, with the skipper contributing a brisk 10 off just nine deliveries before being run out. Fawaz Attiq fell cheaply to Fowzaan Saleem for 2, but the Sabres middle order kept the scoreboard ticking over.
Aarib Ansari anchored the innings with a patient 12 from 29 balls, sharing a crucial 50-run stand for the third wicket with Sibikumar Muthukumaran, who struck an enterprising 12 off 13 deliveries including two boundaries. When both fell — Muthukumaran run out and Ansari bowled by Will Biggs — the score slipped from 80 for 3 to 95 for 6 after Idris Malik and Divik Gupta also departed in quick succession.
The late fireworks came from Elias Haidari, who blazed an unbeaten 26 from just 20 balls with four fours, while Joseph Parker chipped in with an unbeaten 11 off eight deliveries. Their partnership ensured the Sabres added 49 runs in the final phase to set a challenging target. Pinkneys Green's bowling was undermined by 40 extras, with wides and no-balls proving particularly costly. Biggs was the pick of the home attack, returning tidy figures of 2 for 11 from his three overs.
The Pinkneys Green reply was in trouble from the outset. Muthukumaran struck with only one run on the board, bowling Jacob Woerst for a duck, and Haidari followed up his batting heroics by trapping Fowzaan Saleem lbw for 5 and then bowling Kobe Khan for 3. At 18 for 3, the hosts were already in deep difficulty.
Jithendriya then produced a devastating spell of 3 for 7 from his two overs, removing Samuel Boddy, Sam Ruddle and Eddie Voysey to reduce Pinkneys Green to 43 for 6. Will Biggs offered the most resistance with a gritty 15 from 20 balls, and captain Liam Delaney dug in for 8 off 21 deliveries as the pair added 23 for the seventh wicket — the best partnership of the innings. However, once Mitul Kalidindi bowled Biggs and then had Delaney caught, the tail was exposed.
Divik Gupta chipped in with the key wicket of Samuel Croxford for a duck, finishing with excellent figures of 1 for 3 from two overs, while Kalidindi wrapped up the innings with 2 for 12. Idris Malik also impressed with a maiden in his two overs, conceding just five runs. All eleven Sabres players bowled during the innings as the visitors shared the workload to dismiss Pinkneys Green with four balls to spare, sealing a comprehensive 50-run victory.
