Match Report

Tanguturi Shines as Sonning Sunday A's Demolish Nomads by 116 Runs

Sonning Sunday A's recorded a comprehensive 116-run victory over Nomads at King George's Field, with young spinner Aarav Tanguturi's devastating spell of 4-17 proving the decisive factor in dismantling the visitors' batting lineup.

After being asked to bat first, Sonning posted a competitive 196-5 from their 45 overs, with Jacob Fitton top-scoring with an unbeaten 50. Fitton's patient innings, featuring five boundaries and one six, provided the backbone of Sonning's total as he constructed a series of valuable partnerships with the middle order.

Peter Higginbottom contributed a well-crafted 39, while Muhammad Qaisar (29) and captain Charles Astwood (21) gave Sonning a solid platform with an opening stand of 46. The Nomads bowlers shared the wickets around, with Charlie Moore's 1-47 the most expensive of the five successful bowlers.

Nomads' reply started disastrously against a disciplined Sonning attack. Michael Longridge struck early, removing S Reever for 8 when well caught by wicketkeeper Muhammad Qaisar. The Nomads innings never gained momentum as they slumped to 20-4, with Kyle Deller-Law falling to Tanguturi without scoring.

Kyle Bradley offered the only significant resistance for Nomads, battling for 73 deliveries to make 20, but found little support as Tanguturi ripped through the middle order. The young spinner bowled with remarkable control, claiming 4-17 from his seven overs including five maidens in a match-defining spell.

The visitors briefly threatened a recovery when Mike Stafford struck four boundaries in a quickfire 18, but his run-out ended any slim hopes of a comeback. Richard Draper mopped up the tail with 2-11 as Nomads were dismissed for just a hollow 80 in 31 overs.

Sonning's victory was built on disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, with their attack sharing the wickets around. Michael Longridge (2-9) and Richard Draper (2-11) provided excellent support to Tanguturi, while Robert Jones delivered a miserly spell of 1-10 from six overs including three maidens.
