Dominant Bowling Display Leads Sonning to Convincing Victory over BBC Caversham

Sonning Sunday As recorded a comprehensive victory against BBC Caversham at King George's Field on Sunday, dismissing the visitors for just 71 in response to their declared total of 162-9.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Sonning captain Charles Astwood led from the front with an attacking 33 from 32 balls, including six boundaries. The skipper shared a productive second-wicket partnership with Shenul Widanapathirana (14) that helped establish a platform after Matthew Calhoum's early dismissal for 6.

Michael Longridge provided valuable middle-order stability with a patient 31 from 41 deliveries, while Jacob Fitton (19) and Toby Fitton (19) made useful contributions as Sonning reached 162-9 before declaring. BBC Caversham's captain M Randall proved the pick of the visitors' bowling attack, returning impressive figures of 4-13 from eight overs, including three maidens.

BBC Caversham's reply started disastrously as they slumped to 12-4 inside the opening overs. Toby Fitton struck twice in quick succession, removing D Labours and Wasim, while Michael Longridge claimed the wickets of Richard Salmon and T Massey during a devastating opening spell.

T Castle offered some resistance for the visitors, making 11 from 39 deliveries before being run out by Kabir Dave. Captain M Randall top-scored with 17, including four boundaries, but could not prevent the collapse as BBC Caversham were eventually dismissed for 71 in the 31st over.

Kabir Dave produced an outstanding bowling performance for Sonning, taking 3-27 from his 9.1 overs including four maidens. He was well supported by Michael Longridge (3-14) and Toby Fitton (2-10), with Daniel Longridge claiming the remaining wicket as Sonning completed a dominant 91-run victory.

The win was built on disciplined bowling and sharp fielding from the Sonning side, who maintained consistent pressure throughout the visitors' innings, with four maidens and only 12 extras conceded across 30.4 overs.
