Match Report

Eagles Soar to Victory as Yanamadala and Pera Star at King George's Field

Sonning U9 Eagles secured a convincing 25-run victory over Purley on Thames in the BYCL Under 9 Super 8s North West league fixture at King George's Field on 21st June 2026. After being asked to bat first following Purley's decision to field at the toss, the Eagles posted a commanding total of 112 for 7 from their 20 overs before restricting the visitors to 87 for 7 in reply.

Siddhartha Yanamadala was the standout performer with the bat for Sonning, striking an impressive 14 runs from just 10 balls, including three well-timed boundaries. His fluent innings at the top of the order set the tone for the Eagles' batting effort. Aadvik Gonchikar provided solid support with 11 runs from 14 deliveries, finding the boundary rope twice, while Mackie Theron chipped in with a useful 8 from 10 balls, including a four.

Contributions came from across the Sonning batting order, with Felix Teed adding 6, Veer Srivastava scoring 5, and captain Ronith Pera making 4. The Eagles were also aided significantly by 53 extras, with Purley's bowlers struggling for consistency, conceding 43 wides and 10 no-balls across their 20 overs. Freddie Fitzsimons was the pick of the Purley attack, returning tidy figures of 2-0-5-1, while Daniel McClean bowled with similar control, conceding just 4 runs from his two overs and taking a wicket.

In defence of their total, Sonning's bowling unit produced a disciplined and penetrating display. Siddhartha Yanamadala proved equally devastating with the ball, claiming a remarkable three wickets while conceding only 2 runs from his two overs — a match-defining spell that ripped through the Purley top order. Captain Ronith Pera was equally miserly, bowling a maiden in his two-over spell and finishing with outstanding figures of 2-1-3-2.

Veer Srivastava and Felix Teed both bowled maidens in their respective spells, with Srivastava conceding 7 runs from his two overs and Teed going for just 6. George Oliver-Gee was economical too, giving away only 4 runs. Mackie Theron completed the wicket-taking with one scalp from his two overs, though he proved slightly more expensive with 11 runs conceded.

Purley's reply never truly gained momentum against the tight Sonning bowling. Daniel McClean provided the one bright spot in the visitors' innings, playing an enterprising knock of 20 from 15 balls that included three fours and a six — the only maximum of the match. Jack Cox offered late resistance with 8 from 9 balls, and captain Luke Alderson contributed 7, but no other Purley batsman managed more than 3 runs. Hugo Cosgrove endured a particularly difficult afternoon, dismissed three times in his spell at the crease while managing just a single run from 16 balls.

The Eagles' victory was built on a complete team performance, with the dual contributions of Yanamadala — 14 runs and three wickets — earning him the unofficial match honours. Captain Pera's leadership with the ball was equally pivotal, his two wickets and maiden over helping to strangle Purley's chase from the outset. The win sees Sonning pick up a full two league points as they continue their campaign in the North West division.
