Sonning Women Cruise to Comfortable Victory Over Emmbrook & Bearwood

Sonning Women's 1st XI produced a dominant all-round display to secure a convincing win against Emmbrook & Bearwood in the Super 8 Development Group 1 on 2nd June 2024. After winning the toss and electing to field, captain Sharon Fleming's side restricted the hosts to just 53 for 3 from their 16 overs before chasing down the target with ease, posting 102 for 2 in reply.

Sonning's bowling attack shared the workload impressively, with seven bowlers used across the 16-over innings. Chloe Bailey set the tone with an excellent spell of 3-0-5-1, conceding just five runs from her three overs while claiming a wicket. Sophie Parker was equally parsimonious, returning figures of 3-1-6-0, including a maiden over that applied early pressure on the Emmbrook & Bearwood batting order.

Elinor Longridge chipped in with 1 for 11 from her three overs, while Amberley Taylor also claimed a wicket despite being slightly more expensive with 1 for 13 from two overs. Katie Barrows delivered a tidy spell of 2-1-4-0, and Sharon Fleming's single over yielded just one run. The disciplined collective effort meant Emmbrook & Bearwood's batters struggled throughout, with Deepa Ravi top-scoring for the hosts with 9 off 12 balls, including a solitary boundary.

Tina Lucas provided the only other resistance of note for the home side, striking 7 from just 8 deliveries with a four, while Prisha Pandit contributed 5 off 12 balls batting at number eight. No Emmbrook & Bearwood batter was able to build a significant innings, with 19 extras making up a substantial portion of the team's total.

The Sonning reply was led superbly by opener Sophie Parker, who played a blistering knock of 23 from just 13 balls. Parker struck five boundaries in an aggressive innings that immediately put the visitors on the front foot and set the tone for a comfortable chase.

Siobhan Davis provided excellent support lower down the order, batting at number eight and contributing a fluent 16 from 14 deliveries, finding the boundary rope twice. Rita Green also impressed with a handy 14 off 13 balls, including a four, ensuring the runs kept flowing through the middle and lower order.

Emmbrook & Bearwood's bowlers struggled for control, conceding 33 extras in total — including 21 wides and 10 no-balls from Anna Smy's single over alone. Prisha Pandit and Arti Agrawal each claimed a wicket apiece, but with the Sonning batting line-up contributing runs throughout the order, the home side were never able to build sustained pressure. The comprehensive victory earned Sonning six league points, leaving their opponents with just one from the contest.
