Sonning Crumble to Heavy Defeat as Harpsden Cruise to Nine-Wicket Victory
Sonning 1st XI's Sunday season opener ended in disappointment as they were comprehensively beaten by Harpsden at the weekend. Put into bat first, Sonning struggled to build momentum throughout their innings, eventually being dismissed for just 90 runs.
The opening partnership of Kavya Panchal (16) and Dhruv Peshkar (20) provided Sonning's most substantial contribution, putting on 36 for the first wicket before both fell to catches. Robert Jones added a brief 10 runs at number three, but when Harrison Lott was bowled for just a single, Sonning's innings began to unravel rapidly.
Richard Skeil (9) and Adil Malik (2) offered minimal resistance in the middle order, with only tail-ender Hatib Khan showing any real defiance with an unbeaten 11 to help Sonning limp to their modest total of 90 all out.
Harpsden made light work of the chase, cruising to their target with nine wickets in hand. Adil Malik claimed Sonning's solitary wicket, returning figures of 1-32 from his four overs, but it proved to be little consolation as Harpsden reached 92-1 to secure a comfortable victory with plenty of overs to spare.
