Match Report
Murphy and Lott Power Scorchers to Commanding Victory Over Pinkneys Green
Sonning U15 Scorchers produced a dominant all-round display at King George's Field on Tuesday evening, posting an imposing 192 for 3 before bowling out Pinkneys Green for 113 to claim a comprehensive victory in the BYCL Under 15 T20 Blast West.
Captain Max Murphy won the toss and chose to bat, a decision that proved emphatically correct as the Scorchers' top order fired from the outset. Harrison Lott and Sid Anilkumar set the tone with an aggressive opening stand of 30, with Anilkumar striking four boundaries and a six in a blistering 24 from just 11 balls before falling caught off the bowling of Ben Biggs. Lott continued to anchor the innings with composure, reaching a well-constructed half-century from 36 deliveries, including seven fours and a six, before retiring not out.
The real damage came during a sensational second-wicket partnership that yielded 151 runs. Murphy joined Lott and the pair took the Pinkneys Green attack apart, with the skipper playing the more expansive innings of the two. Murphy struck four fours and three towering sixes in his 55 from 42 balls before also retiring not out, having given his side a platform that was always going to be beyond the visitors' reach.
Kavya Panchal maintained the momentum with a punchy 22 from 17 balls, laced with three fours and a six, while Ethan Towner remained unbeaten on 7 as the Scorchers finished their 20 overs on a formidable 192 for 3. The Pinkneys Green bowlers struggled for consistency, conceding 28 extras including 17 wides, with Ben Biggs the only bowler to take wickets, finishing with 2 for 29 from his three overs.
Pinkneys Green's reply started positively through their openers Alex Fennell and Oli Fennell, who put on 61 for the first wicket to give the visitors a glimmer of hope. Oli Fennell was particularly aggressive, smashing six fours in a quickfire 34 from 17 balls before Christopher Dowse broke through, with Murphy taking the catch. Alex Fennell contributed a steady 28 from 32 deliveries before Oscar Zaum had him caught by Dowse.
The complexion of the chase shifted dramatically once the opening pair was separated. Murphy switched from run-scorer to match-winner with the ball, returning outstanding figures of 2 for 4 from three overs with a maiden, dismissing Ben Hughes lbw for a duck and Arthur Fenna caught for 3. The middle order collapsed under sustained pressure, with Pinkneys Green slumping from 80 for 2 to 84 for 5 in quick succession.
Zaum complemented his captain superbly, finishing with 2 for 14 from three overs, including the key wicket of Alex Fennell and the stumping of Ben Biggs for 14 with wicketkeeper Panchal doing the work behind the stumps. Neel Kumar chipped in with 2 for 10, bowling Jack Admans and having Alexander Boddy caught by Murphy, while Ollie Terry and Neil Jasti each claimed a wicket apiece. Noah Ruddle offered some late resistance with an unbeaten 15, but there was no denying the Scorchers as they bowled Pinkneys Green out for 113 with one ball remaining, sealing victory by 79 runs.
It was a thoroughly complete performance from the Scorchers, with eight different bowlers used and wickets shared across the attack, capping a memorable evening at King George's Field in the league campaign.
