Scorchers Chase Down 96 with Ease as Maddi and Dollinger Star at Sonning Lane
Sonning U13 Scorchers produced a clinical run chase to defeat Reading Under 13 Tigers in the BYCL Under 13 Blast North West fixture at Sonning Lane on 20th August 2026. After restricting Reading to 95 for 8 from their 16 overs, captain Jamie Dollinger's side chased down the target with more than seven overs to spare, reaching 96 for 4 in just 12.5 overs.
Reading won the toss and chose to bat, but found themselves in immediate difficulty against an incisive opening spell from Saurav Sivaram. The young seamer struck twice in his two overs, removing Sharvil Jadav for 1 and Vikyath Ragi for a duck, conceding just 7 runs in the process. At 16 for 3, Reading were in serious trouble, with Henry Bright also claiming the wicket of opener Pragnan Chengalva, who had struck two boundaries in a brisk 10 from 8 balls before being bowled.
Avyukt Bagga (8 off 11) and Zuhair Bhatti (12 off 21) attempted to rebuild for Reading, adding 17 for the fourth wicket before Utkarsh Sinha broke through to bowl Bagga. Bhatti battled on before falling to skipper Dollinger, who returned tidy figures of 1 for 6 from his two overs. Kapish Sharma provided a brief injection of scoring with 12 off 10 balls, including two fours, before Aarib Ansari had him bowled. Arjun Dosanjh contributed 11 off 22 balls and Dhvaneet Suthar added an unbeaten 9, helping Reading recover to a competitive 95 for 8. The Scorchers used nine bowlers in total, with wickets shared around — Daniel Moseley and Vihaan Bangera each claiming one apiece to complete the collective effort.
The Scorchers' reply began with a brief wobble as Finley Andrews (6) fell to Sharvil Jadav with the score on 11, and Utkarsh Sinha (3) was bowled by Arjun Dosanjh to leave Sonning at 20 for 2. The early loss of both openers brought together Tejus Maddi and the promoted Saurav Sivaram, and this pair would transform the match entirely.
Maddi was the anchor of the chase, batting with composure and authority throughout. He cracked four boundaries in a fluent 25 off 25 balls, timing the ball sweetly and rotating the strike with intelligence. A 58-run partnership for the third wicket between Maddi and Dollinger effectively settled the contest. Dollinger, coming in after Sivaram's departure, matched Maddi's intent with a confident 22 off 22 balls, hitting three fours as the pair took the score from 20 to 78 at a canter.
When Dollinger was caught off Avyukt Bagga with the score on 93, only four runs were needed. Daniel Moseley wasted no time in finishing proceedings, smashing an unbeaten 12 off just 7 balls, including two boundaries, to take the Scorchers past the target. Charlie Bright was alongside him at the end, unbeaten on 1. Maddi retired not out, his job done superbly.
Reading's bowlers struggled for consistency, conceding 27 extras including 16 wides and 4 no-balls. Sharvil Jadav's 2 for 17 was the standout effort with the ball for the home side, but it was not enough to stem the flow of runs. The Scorchers' victory was comprehensive, built on disciplined bowling that shared eight wickets among eight bowlers, followed by a composed middle-order batting display that never allowed the target to become a concern.
