Match Report
Kestrels Dominate with Bat and Ball in Comprehensive Victory over Theale and Tilehurst
Sonning U9 Kestrels produced a commanding all-round display to defeat Theale and Tilehurst in their BYCL Under 9 Super 8s South West league fixture on 9th June, chasing down the visitors' modest total of 50 with a remarkable 138 in reply without losing a single wicket.
Captain Lewis Towner won the toss and elected to field, a decision that was emphatically vindicated by a disciplined bowling effort from the Kestrels. Ranbir Setia was the pick of the attack, returning outstanding figures of 3 wickets for just 5 runs from his two overs, including a maiden. His ability to find the stumps consistently caused havoc in the Theale and Tilehurst batting order. Arthur Teed provided excellent support at the other end, claiming 2 wickets for 4 runs, while Oscar Williams chipped in with 1 for 6, also bowling a maiden over.
Alexander Green was arguably the most economical of the lot, conceding just a single run across his two overs — one of which was a maiden — though wickets eluded him. Sai Sathvik Cherukuri completed the wicket-taking effort with 1 for 8 from his two overs. In total, the Kestrels claimed nine dismissals, restricting Theale and Tilehurst to just 10 runs from the bat, with 40 of the visitors' 50-run total coming from extras.
For Theale and Tilehurst, it was a difficult day with the bat. Albie Towner top-scored with 5 runs from 10 balls, including the innings' only boundary four, while Abhishek Khasgiwala contributed 4. The remainder of the batting card made for bleak reading, with six of the eight batters failing to score a run.
The Kestrels' reply was emphatic. Every single batter contributed to a total of 138 for no wicket, a margin of victory of 88 runs. Alexander Green led the charge with an impressive 17 runs from just 12 balls, striking with authority throughout his innings which included a well-timed four. Jonathan Turner was equally fluent, compiling 15 from 13 deliveries with a boundary of his own.
Sai Sathvik Cherukuri and Oscar Williams both reached double figures with 10 apiece, Williams finding the only six of the entire match in his entertaining 11-ball knock. Captain Towner set the tone at the top with 9 from 13 balls, Arthur Teed matched that score from 12 deliveries, and Ranbir Setia added a composed 8 to complement his earlier bowling heroics. Jovan Purwaha completed the clean sweep of contributions with 5 runs including a boundary.
Theale and Tilehurst's bowlers struggled for consistency throughout, conceding 55 extras in the Sonning innings, with 31 wides and 18 no-balls proving particularly costly. None of the eight bowlers managed to take a wicket, with Ritwik Kini's 11 runs from two overs representing the most economical spell for the visitors. It was a thoroughly dominant performance from the Kestrels, with Ranbir Setia's all-round contribution of 3 wickets and 8 runs the standout individual display of the afternoon.
