Scorchers' Bowling Brilliance Sets Up Comfortable Away Victory at Peppard Common

Sonning U11 Scorchers produced an excellent all-round bowling display to restrict Peppard Stoke Row to 76 for 8 before chasing down the target with relative comfort at Peppard Common on 17 May in the BYCL Under 11 T20 Blast West.

Captain Jonathan Turner won the toss and elected to field, a decision that was quickly vindicated. Ridith Kandadi set the tone with a superb opening spell, removing Hughie Moorcroft for 5 and Jack Dugan for a golden duck to leave the hosts reeling at 16 for 2. His figures of 2-4 from two overs, including a maiden, were outstanding and established early control for the visitors.

Peppard Stoke Row's innings was held together by two players. Leo Franklin struck three fours and a six in a confident 20 from 21 balls, while captain Barney Churchill was the most aggressive batter on show, cracking four boundaries in a brisk 22 off just 15 deliveries. The pair shared a partnership of 23 for the third wicket that steadied the innings after Kandadi's early strikes. Churchill then added 27 with Master Warren for the fifth wicket to push the score along to 66.

Turner broke the dangerous partnership, taking a sharp return catch to dismiss Franklin before bowling Ted Wilcox-Jones first ball to claim figures of 2-22. Oliver Baker then had Churchill caught, again by Turner in the field, who took three catches in total during the innings. The late-order collapse was completed by Jovan Purwaha, whose remarkable spell of 1.2 overs yielded 2 wickets for just 2 runs, including a maiden, as he dismissed Master Warren and Dylan Judah to wrap up the innings. Vivaan Ramesh also deserved praise for his miserly two-over spell that conceded no runs and included two maiden overs.

In reply, the Scorchers got off to a solid start. Ved Patwa played positively at the top of the order, hitting two fours in his 9 as he and Musa Meer put on 29 for the opening wicket. Leo Franklin struck back for Peppard Stoke Row with two quick wickets, bowling Patwa and Lewis Towner to bring the score to 29 for 2, but a significant portion of extras had already begun to ease the chase.

Vivaan Ramesh continued his fine match with a composed 10 from 13 balls, including a well-timed boundary, adding to the Sonning cause before falling bowled by Dylan Judah. Turner anchored the middle order with an unbeaten 8 from 22 balls, showing the patience and maturity expected of a captain. Jacob Garner provided a steady hand at the end with 5 not out as the Scorchers reached their target.

The extras column told much of the story of the second innings. Peppard Stoke Row conceded 38 extras — including 20 wides and 10 byes — which effectively handed Sonning almost half of the runs required. Jack Dugan's two overs went for 14 runs, 10 of them wides, while Master Warren offered the only real control with two maiden overs conceding nothing.

The Scorchers reached 77 for 5 from 16 overs to secure the win. While no individual batting performance dominated, it was the collective bowling effort in the first innings — led by Kandadi and Purwaha — that proved the difference. Turner's three catches in the field added further gloss to a comprehensive team display on the road.
