Match Report

U11 Sharks Cruise to Comfortable Victory at Hurst Rangers

Sonning CC's U11 Sharks produced an impressive all-round display to defeat Hurst Rangers CC by 45 runs in their BYCL Under 11 Challenge (Tier 1) North West fixture at Hurst Rangers Cricket Club on Monday evening.

Hurst Rangers won the toss and chose to bat first, but were kept in check throughout their 20 overs by a disciplined Sonning bowling attack. Oscar Williams was the standout performer with the ball, returning remarkable figures of 2-1 from his two overs, including a maiden. Captain Alexander Hatchett-Walker also impressed, claiming 2-9 from three overs, while Seve Horton matched him with 2-7 from his three-over spell. Chloe Dawes bowled with excellent control, conceding just four runs from three overs and picking up a wicket, her spell including a maiden over. Niko Jordinson chipped in with a wicket of his own, though his three overs were costly with 10 wides among his 13 runs conceded.

Ben Tregidgo top-scored for the home side with 12 off 15 balls, the only Hurst Rangers batter to reach double figures. Captain Felix De Mounteney contributed eight from 27 deliveries at the top of the order, and Oscar O'Grady matched that tally from just nine balls lower down, but the hosts were ultimately restricted to 64 all out from their 20 overs, losing 11 wickets in total.

The Sharks' reply got off to a flying start thanks to opener Oscar Williams, who backed up his superb bowling with a punchy 17 off just 12 balls, cracking three fours before being dismissed. His aggressive intent at the top set the tone for the entire innings.

Wicketkeeper Anay Goswami anchored the middle overs with a steady 12 from 23 deliveries, while Ruby Cross contributed nine from 25 balls, the pair ensuring Sonning never lost momentum despite both falling to the Hurst Rangers attack. Captain Hatchett-Walker then underlined his influence on the match with an unbeaten 16 off 15 balls, striking two boundaries in a composed knock that further extended Sonning's advantage.

The lower order continued to punish the home bowling. Elijah Patterson struck a brisk unbeaten 12 from 11 balls with two fours, and Chloe Dawes added a handy eight not out to complete a thoroughly dominant team batting performance. Every Sonning batter made a contribution, with the Sharks posting 109-7 from their 20 overs — 45 runs clear of the opposition total.

Hurst Rangers' bowlers toiled hard, with Dylan Bayliffe the pick of the attack, conceding just four runs from two overs including a maiden and taking a wicket. Prasidh Srinivasan also bowled tidily, returning figures of 1-16 from four overs. However, the home side struggled for consistency elsewhere, with Issy Clarke conceding 34 runs from four overs as the Sharks' batters found the boundary with regularity throughout the innings.

The comprehensive victory saw Sonning collect the full 20 league points, with Williams and Hatchett-Walker both delivering outstanding performances across both disciplines to drive the U11 Sharks to a convincing away win.
