Match Report

SONNING extended their advantage at the top of the Premier Division after sinking Berks County Sports by seven wickets last Saturday.

Dark clouds over Scours Lane meant closest rivals Ibis Mapledurham's game against Mortimer West End was abandoned.

But on the other side of town Sonning took advantage to open up some daylight at the top with a comprehensive seven-wicket defeat of Berks CS.

Sports struggled to make any impact against an inform Sonning attack and were eventually bowled out for 101 in 41 overs.

And Sonning had no problem surpassing that as Latif Gohar (34no) and Steve Roberts (33) saw their side to 104-3 inside 20 overs.

Sonning skipper Gary Phillips said: "It was important to extend our lead with Ibis not playing and we gave a good allround performance. We fielded superbly in wet conditions and the bowlers all did well, with Phil Swann the pick."

Swan finished with 3-33 from 13 overs while Andy Benning bagged 3-19, his best bowling return since signing from West Ilsley during the winter.

For Sports no-one was able to make any real headway and it was Gareth Bartman who top-scored with 26.

Skipper Mike Dixon said: "I felt we got ourselves out more than they shot us out and we didn't bat very well."
