Match Report

Sonning title charge is rocked by Brock

EUAN BROCK produced a tremendous all-round display as Peppard virtually ended Sonning’s Premier Division title hopes.

Brock hit 54 as Peppard totalled 218 all out, then claimed six wickets and took a superb catch to dismiss Sonning for 108.

But defending champions Sonning, who were missing several key players, didn’t do themselves any favours as they dropped more than a dozen catches in a disappointing fielding display.

Brock’s father Ronnie had opened the Peppard innings with Andy Watts, and they had their work cut out against the pacy Ghulam Abbas and Harvey Grout on a pitch affected by overnight rain.

Watts fell for 26, but then Ronnie Brock took control with an excellent 54 before he was run out by a direct hit.

Peppard lost two more quick wickets, but Tim Vines (30) and Euan Brock added 40 valuable runs for the fourth wicket.

Vines fell at 130, but Euan saw the score to 202 before being bowled by Abbas for a fine 54 – the same score as his father!

Peppard were all out in the last over, with Abbas taking 4-49 and Nisar Ahmed 3-67.

As the Pound Lane pitch dried, the bounce became more erratic and wickets fell regularly.

Only Pete Whitmore (21) and Andy Benning (22) offered any resistance.

And Euan Brock came on as second-change bowler to claim 6-18 off 9.3 overs and see Peppard to a 110-run success.
