Match Report

Huggi's Four-Wicket Blitz Powers Scorchers to Comfortable Victory

Sonning U11 Scorchers produced a dominant all-round display to defeat Emmbrook & Bearwood at Knowl Hill, bowling out the visitors for just 37 before chasing down the target with nine wickets in hand.

Captain Jonathan Turner won the toss and opted to field first, a decision that proved inspired as his bowlers tore through the Emmbrook & Bearwood batting order. Svarup Huggi was the chief destroyer, claiming four wickets in his two overs to leave the opposition reeling. He struck in quick succession, bowling Isla Collins-Lindsay for 3 before removing Ella Regent and Vansh Verma for ducks off consecutive deliveries to reduce Emmbrook & Bearwood to 5 for 3. He later added Luke Dance to his haul, finishing with remarkable figures of 4-12.

Zain Baloch opened the bowling with hostility, conceding 11 runs from his two overs and claiming the important wicket of Reyaan Gupta, bowled for a duck, as the visitors slumped to 6 for 4. At the other end, Musa Meer was equally effective, taking 2-6 from 1.5 overs, including the key scalps of opposition captain Aakarsh Mane and Avik Gupta.

Mane was the sole resistance for Emmbrook & Bearwood, top-scoring with 12 from 19 balls, including two boundaries. He watched wickets tumble at the other end as his teammates struggled against the Scorchers' attack, with five batsmen falling for ducks. Two run outs added to the visitors' woes as they were eventually dismissed for 37 in just 6.5 overs, with extras contributing 16 of their total.

Jaiden Patel completed the bowling effort tidily, conceding just five runs from his over without taking a wicket, but keeping the pressure firmly on the struggling batsmen.

The chase began with a minor hiccup as Harrison Kidd was run out for nought with the score on 4. However, Turner and Elijah Patterson steadied the ship with an unbroken partnership that steered the Scorchers home. Turner, leading from the front, finished unbeaten on 11 from 18 balls, while Patterson contributed a composed 8 not out from 18 deliveries. The pair benefited from a generous 19 extras from the Emmbrook & Bearwood bowlers, with Vansh Verma conceding 12 runs from 1.2 overs including three wides and four no-balls.

The Scorchers reached their target of 38 in 6.2 overs, completing a comprehensive nine-wicket victory in the BYCL Under 11 T20 Blast West league and collecting a full 20 points from the fixture.
