Scorchers Post Commanding 65-Run Victory at The MP Academy Sports Ground

Sonning U11 Scorchers produced a dominant all-round display to defeat MP Sports Academy by 65 runs in their U11 League Pool 3 fixture on 14th June. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Scorchers posted an imposing 115 for 3 from their 16 overs before bowling out the hosts for just 50, with captain Ridith Kandadi starring with both bat and ball.

Jonathan Turner and Seve Horton set the platform with an authoritative opening partnership. Turner struck 25 from 24 balls, finding the boundary twice before retiring not out, while Horton contributed a composed 20 from 25 deliveries, also hitting two fours before retiring. The pair's assured start gave the Scorchers a strong foundation from which to build.

Alexander Hatchett-Walker maintained the momentum with a brisk 7 from 11 balls, including a four, before being run out with the score on 73. Arthur Teed fell shortly after for 1, bowled by Leo C, but captain Kandadi injected further impetus with a useful 8 from 9 balls before being trapped lbw by Goerge M. Lewis Towner held firm with an unbeaten 9 from 14 deliveries, anchoring the middle order.

The late fireworks came from Alexander Green, who blazed an unbeaten 18 from just 8 balls, striking two fours and the only six of the innings to push the total beyond the century mark. The MP Sports Academy bowlers struggled for control, conceding 27 extras including 11 wides.

The Scorchers' bowling attack was relentless in reply. Jovan Purwaha set the tone superbly with an opening spell of 2-1-4-1, including a maiden, as he bowled Charlie W for 2 to reduce MP Sports Academy to 7 for 1. Captain Alex A offered the only sustained resistance for the hosts, making 10 from 25 balls with two boundaries before retiring not out.

Arthur Teed trapped Isaac G lbw for 1, and then Kandadi took centre stage with the ball. The skipper returned remarkable figures of 2 for 2 from his two overs, first catching Vansh M off his own bowling for 1, then having Sammy A caught — again taking the catch himself — for a golden duck. Three wickets fell at 40, and MP Sports Academy's innings was in ruins.

Jonathan Turner, who had earlier top-scored with the bat, sealed the victory with a devastating final over, taking 2 for 1 as he bowled both Toby G and Goerge M for ducks. Alexander Hatchett-Walker also deserved credit for a miserly maiden over conceding no runs. Despite the hosts' extras column contributing 30 of their 50 runs — including 20 no-balls — the Scorchers' discipline in key moments proved the difference as MP Sports Academy were bowled out for 50, handing the visitors a comprehensive win.
