Terry's Five-Wicket Haul Not Enough as Sonning 4ths Fall to Maidenhead & Bray
Sonning 4th XI suffered a defeat at Waingels College on Saturday despite a remarkable bowling performance from Ollie Terry, who claimed 5 for 15 in a losing cause against Maidenhead & Bray 5th XI in Thames Valley Cricket League Division 10A.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Sonning posted 153 all out from 38.3 overs. Wicketkeeper Kavya Panchal led the way with a patient 44 from 97 balls, providing the backbone of the innings while wickets fell regularly at the other end. Kyle Dellar-Law's aggressive 23 from just 30 deliveries and Alex Mcloughlin's 18 were the only other notable contributions.
The Maidenhead & Bray bowling attack shared the wickets around, with Jerome Amulraj (3-26) and Amit Kachroo (3-21) doing the bulk of the damage. Ahsan Malik was the most economical bowler, conceding just 19 runs from his eight overs while picking up two wickets.
In response, Sonning made the perfect start when Toby Fitton trapped Rishi Garg lbw with just one run on the board. However, Shahbaz Khan, the Maidenhead & Bray captain, took control with a match-defining 68 from 58 balls, including 13 fours and a six. Garth Hinkel also made a quick-fire 21 from just 12 deliveries to give the visitors momentum.
Ollie Terry then produced a remarkable spell of bowling that threatened to turn the match in Sonning's favour. He ripped through the Maidenhead & Bray middle order with a devastating burst of 5 for 15 from five overs, at one stage taking four wickets without conceding a run as the visitors slumped from 91-3 to 101-7.
Despite Terry's heroics, Ahsan Malik held his nerve with an unbeaten 30 from 32 balls to guide Maidenhead & Bray to victory with eight wickets down. His composed innings, featuring five boundaries and a six, ensured the visitors reached their target in the 28th over.
The defeat leaves Sonning 4th XI still searching for form in Division 10A, while Maidenhead & Bray will be relieved to have overcome Terry's inspired bowling performance to secure the 22 points.
