Match Report

Eagles Soar to Commanding Victory with Dominant All-Round Display

Sonning U9 Eagles produced an outstanding all-round performance to defeat Peppard Stoke Row Under 9 Kites by 77 runs at Reading Blue Coat School's Lower Field on Sunday. After being asked to bat first following the visitors' decision to field, the Eagles posted an imposing 121 for 2 from their 16 overs before bowling out the Kites for just 44 in reply.

Oscar Williams was the star of the Sonning batting effort, striking a superb 20 from just 11 balls, an innings laced with three boundaries that provided the Eagles with real momentum in the closing overs. Williams batted with genuine intent, finding the gaps regularly and punishing anything short or overpitched with crisp strokeplay that belied his age.

Alexander Green and Jonathan Turner both contributed handsomely with 14 apiece. Green was particularly eye-catching, cracking three fours in his 12-ball knock at the top of the order, while Turner matched him with two boundaries from 13 deliveries lower down. Arthur Teed added a useful 10 from 12 balls, including a four, as the Eagles' middle order ensured the scoreboard kept ticking over. Captain Lewis Towner anchored the early overs with a steady 6 from 17 balls, while Ridith Kandadi (5 off 7) and Ranbir Setia (6 off 13) also made contributions. A total of 44 extras, including 24 wides, further swelled the Sonning total.

The Eagles' bowling attack then produced a clinical display to dismiss the Kites 12 times across their 16 overs. Alexander Green was the pick of the bowlers, returning remarkable figures of 3 for 4 from his two overs, conceding no wides or no-balls in a spell of outstanding accuracy and control.

Oscar Williams followed up his batting heroics with 2 for 10 from two overs, while Arthur Teed also claimed two wickets, finishing with 2 for 9. Ridith Kandadi bowled with impressive discipline, returning figures of 1 for 1 from two overs including a maiden — a standout achievement at this age group. Jonathan Turner (1-4) and Ranbir Setia (1-4) each chipped in with a wicket to complete a genuine team bowling effort.

The Peppard Stoke Row batters found runs extremely difficult to come by against Sonning's disciplined attack. Tony Robinson top-scored for the visitors with 6 from 19 balls, while Oliver Fernando (4 off 14) and Dylan Judah (4 off 11) offered brief resistance. Barney Edwards endured a particularly tough time, managing just 1 from 13 deliveries while being dismissed four times, and Toby Telford was scoreless from 15 balls. Only 20 runs came from the bat across the entire Kites innings, with 24 extras making up more than half their total.

Captain Lewis Towner set the tone in the field with a tidy opening spell of 2-0-3-0, and Suraj Iyer kept things tight with 2-0-5-0. Every member of the Eagles squad bowled their allocation, demonstrating the impressive depth and collective spirit that underpinned this comprehensive league victory.
