Scorchers Bowl Out Peppard Stoke Row to Claim Convincing Victory at Waingels
Sonning U13 Scorchers produced a dominant all-round display to defeat Peppard Stoke Row's Under 13 Maharajas in their BYCL Under 13 Blast North West fixture at Waingels College on Tuesday evening, with nine bowlers sharing the wickets before captain Arnav Duvvuri and wicketkeeper Joseph Dowse guided the chase with composed half-century contributions between them.
Peppard Stoke Row won the toss and chose to bat, and their captain Trystan Davies wasted no time in stamping his authority on the innings. Davies struck one four and two sixes in a blistering 16 off just five balls to race Peppard to 16 before Eshan Wang Kumar found the breakthrough, bowling him to end a brief but explosive cameo. Leo Franklin and Max Burnett then steadied affairs with a partnership of 22, though the scoring rate slowed considerably against disciplined Sonning bowling, before Namit Desai had Franklin caught by Duvvuri for 6 to leave the visitors 38 for 2.
Charlie Edwards provided the most substantial contribution of the middle order, striking two fours in a brisk 13 off 12 balls. His stand of 25 with Burnett pushed the score to 63 before Edwards was run out, triggering a dramatic collapse. Burnett fell in the same over for 5 off 30 balls, and the innings unravelled spectacularly as Charlie Bright ripped through the lower order with three wickets in his two overs, including the scalps of Burnett, George Hollins — stumped by Dowse — and Elliot Mackmin, who departed for a duck.
The Scorchers' bowling attack was a genuine team effort. Saurav Sivaram bowled a maiden in his single over and picked up the wicket of James Sanigar for nought, while Ibrahim Ali Mir was devastating at the death with figures of 2 for 2 from 1.1 overs, removing Benji White for 4 and cleaning up the tail. Tejus Maddi and Namit Desai each bowled a maiden in their respective spells, with Desai conceding just two runs from his two overs. Suvir Jaryal was similarly economical, going for only six runs in two overs. Peppard Stoke Row were eventually bowled out for 59, with a hefty 32 extras — including eight wides and eight no-balls — inflating the total beyond what the bat had managed.
In reply, Duvvuri led from the front with a captain's knock of 21 off 24 balls, anchoring the top of the order. Ibrahim Ali Mir contributed a quick 5 off 7 before falling caught by Max Burnett off Leo Franklin's bowling, but by then the Scorchers were well on their way.
Dowse proved the ideal partner to shepherd the chase, compiling an unbeaten 20 off 22 deliveries with calm assurance. Siddharth Kumar added a useful 6 before being bowled by George Hollins, but the target was never in serious doubt. Saurav Sivaram came in and nudged a single as the Scorchers overhauled Peppard Stoke Row's total with wickets and overs to spare, six of their batters not required to pad up.
The 34 extras conceded by the Peppard Stoke Row attack further eased the Scorchers' passage, and the comprehensive victory — built on disciplined bowling, sharp fielding, and composed batting from the top order — earned Sonning a full 20 league points.
