Match Report

Hat-trick hero Roy puts Peppard back on track

Roy Hayden took a hat-trick as Peppard finally kick-started their Premier Division campaign.

After two successive defeats, the Oxon side bounced back to form with a winning draw over defending champions Sonning

Hayden did the damage with the ball to leave Sonning hanging on, while Andy Watts had earlier blasted an unbeaten century to help Peppard post 221-9.

Watts and Ronnie Brock put on 76 for the second wicket until Brock was caught off George Troughton for 29.

Then Watts held the innings together with an outstanding 102no off 134 balls, including 14 fours, while wickets fell regularly at the other end – in fact, extras were the next top scorer on 35.

Sonning’s Andy Benning took 4-45 off 15 overs and he was well-supported by Troughton (2-46) and Mark Richards, who pitched in with three late wickets for 27.

Peppard’s Paul and Tim Vines restricted Sonning to 75 off 20 overs before JJ Harris boosted the visitors’ hopes with an excellent 88.

He was superbly caught at midwicket by Hayden off Euan Brock, then Hayden took a split-over hat-trick as Sonning batted out the last two overs for a draw.
