Astwood's Sonning 4th XI Demolish Sulhamstead in Emphatic 171-Run Victory

Sonning 4th XI captain Charles Astwood led his side to a commanding win over Sulhamstead & Ufton in their Division 10A league clash at Home Park Cricket Ground on Saturday, with a 171-run margin highlighting the gulf between the teams on the day.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Sonning constructed a formidable total of 242-9 from their 40 overs. While Astwood himself contributed just 11, Aahaan Sharma was the standout performer, crafting an impressive 59 not out from 60 deliveries, including eight boundaries. Alexander Fleming provided the innings' most explosive batting, smashing 48 from just 27 balls with eight fours and a six, while James Travers added a solid 35.

The Sonning innings benefited from several productive partnerships, with Fleming and Travers putting on 68 for the third wicket before Mike Eaton and Sharma combined for a crucial 46-run stand for the seventh wicket. Harry Graham was Sulhamstead's most effective bowler, claiming 4-36 from his seven overs, while Sartaj Kajla picked up 2-42.

Chasing 243 for victory, Sulhamstead's batting display quickly disintegrated against a disciplined Sonning bowling attack. David Fox (10) offered brief resistance at the top of the order before Toby Fitton began wreaking havoc through the visitors' lineup.

Nick Burrows (10) and Jack Gray (12) were the only other Sulhamstead batsmen to reach double figures as Fitton tore through the middle order. The collapse was comprehensive, with Sulhamstead capitulating for just 71 all out in 17.3 overs.

Fitton finished with outstanding figures of 5-31 from his eight overs, the highlight of a ruthless bowling performance. He was ably supported by Jai Sharma (2-25) and Isaac Blakey, who wrapped up the innings with 2-7 from his 2.3 overs.

The victory maintains Sonning's strong form in Division 10A, with Astwood's men combining powerful batting with a clinical bowling display to overwhelm their opponents in all departments.
