Match Report

U9 Falcons Cruise to Comfortable Victory Over White Waltham

Sonning U9 Falcons produced a dominant all-round display to defeat White Waltham Eagles by 34 runs in their U9 Super 8s North East league fixture on 4th June 2023, with outstanding bowling from Oscar Williams and Heet Panchal setting the platform for a convincing home win.

White Waltham won the toss and chose to bat first, but their innings never truly gathered momentum against a disciplined Sonning attack. Henry Adamson was the standout performer for the visitors, top-scoring with 15 runs from 16 balls including two boundaries, while Harrison Symes contributed four at the top of the order. Beyond Adamson, however, no White Waltham batter could find any sustained rhythm against the Falcons' bowling unit.

Oscar Williams was the pick of the Sonning bowlers, returning exceptional figures of 3 wickets for just 4 runs from his two overs, including a maiden. His accuracy and ability to find the edge proved too much for the White Waltham middle order. Heet Panchal was equally impressive at the other end, claiming 3 for 6 from his two overs to dismantle the visitors' batting line-up. Ranbir Setia opened the bowling attack superbly, taking 2 for 12 from three overs with a maiden of his own, while Anay Patel chipped in with 1 for 11 including another maiden over. White Waltham were bowled out for 77 from their 16 overs, with extras contributing a significant 43 runs to their total — 39 of those coming from wides.

In reply, the Falcons made light work of the chase, reaching 111 for 6 from their 16 overs. Captain Alexander Hatchett-Walker led from the front with a commanding innings of 19 runs from 19 balls, striking four boundaries to set the tone at the top of the order. His fluent knock gave Sonning the early impetus they needed.

Oscar Williams, following his superb spell with the ball, showed his all-round credentials by smashing 12 runs from just 9 deliveries, including two fours. Ethan Cawsey provided another quickfire contribution of 8 from 5 balls with a boundary, ensuring the scoring rate never dipped. Alex McDonald added a steady 5 from 19 balls, while Anay Patel and Heet Panchal contributed 3 apiece.

White Waltham's bowling struggled for consistency throughout the Sonning innings, conceding 58 extras — 46 in wides alone. Ben Tilley was the most effective of the visitors' bowlers, claiming 2 wickets from his three overs, while Ollie R also picked up two dismissals. Sam Gay took one wicket but was expensive, conceding 16 runs from three overs including 10 wides.

The comprehensive victory sees Sonning U9 Falcons collect the full two league points, with the nine wickets shared across the bowling attack and contributions throughout the batting order underlining the strength in depth of this young squad.
