Match Report

Sonning Women Cruise to Comfortable Victory Over Emmbrook & Bearwood

Sonning Women's 1st XI secured a convincing win against Emmbrook & Bearwood at King George's Field on 10th May, chasing down their opponents' total of 80 with considerable ease in this Super 8 Development Group 4 fixture.

Captain Michaela Herrett won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that proved astute as Sonning's bowling attack restricted the visitors throughout the 16-over contest. Belle Myers was the standout performer with the ball, claiming three wickets from her three overs, though she was expensive at times with 11 wides among her 21 runs conceded. Grace Phillips delivered the most economical spell of the innings, returning figures of 1-7 from her three overs, while Herrett herself chipped in with 1-18 from three overs.

Emmbrook & Bearwood struggled to build any sustained momentum through the middle of their innings. Openers Ellie Pollitt (8 off 16 balls) and Lucy Prismall (9 off 8) made modest starts, but the middle order found runs difficult to come by, with Izzy May managing just 1 from 17 deliveries. It was left to captain Nicci De Bromhead and Deepa Ravi to add some respectability to the total, both striking 13 apiece with two boundaries each in the closing overs, lifting their side to 80 for 5. Extras contributed a significant 30 runs to the total, including 26 wides.

The Sonning reply was emphatic. Sophie Parker anchored the chase from the top of the order, batting through much of the innings for a composed 14 off 29 balls. Elinor Longridge provided early impetus alongside her, striking 11 from just 8 deliveries, including a well-timed boundary.

Contributions came from throughout the Sonning batting order. Belle Myers followed up her impressive bowling display with a handy 10 off 15 balls, while Kira Knight matched that tally from just 8 deliveries to keep the scoring rate healthy. Elizabeth Van Deventer added 6 before becoming the only Sonning batter dismissed, with De Bromhead claiming the sole wicket of the innings from her two overs.

Wicketkeeper Sarah Wonham (4) and skipper Herrett (5) guided Sonning past the target without further alarm, as the home side reached 100 for 1 from their 16 overs. Extras again played a notable role, with 40 added to Sonning's total — 30 of which came in wides — as the Emmbrook & Bearwood attack struggled for consistency.

The 20-run winning margin was a fair reflection of Sonning's dominance across both innings, with the home side's disciplined bowling and confident batting ensuring a thoroughly professional performance to claim six league points.
