U11 Sharks Claim Victory at Kings Field Despite Spirited Wargrave Batting Display
Sonning U11 Sharks travelled to Kings Field on 19 July and secured a well-deserved win against Wargrave in this BYCL Under 11 Challenge (Tier 1) North West fixture. Captain Oliver Baker won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that ultimately paid dividends as the Sharks' bowlers shared the wickets around before Jaiden Patel's fluent batting anchored the reply.
Wargrave captain Krithik Nowduru was the standout performer of the first innings, striking 37 from just 26 balls with six boundaries to set the tone. He batted with real authority and was comfortably the most aggressive batter on either side during the morning session. Marco Van Rooyen added a brisk 16 from 11 deliveries, while Archie Shaw (10 off 14) and Harrison Hicks (9 off 13) made useful contributions in the middle order. In total, Wargrave posted 144 from their 20 overs, boosted by 49 extras, though 17 wickets fell along the way.
The Sharks' bowling attack was commendably disciplined, with every bowler used taking at least one wicket. Harrison Kidd produced the most economical spell of the match, returning outstanding figures of 2-0-5-1, including a maiden over — a rare feat at this age group. Jaiden Patel was equally effective, conceding just 14 runs from his three overs while claiming two wickets without bowling a single wide.
Jessica Hawkins, Isabella Partridge, Elijah Mani, and Arjun Baradvaj each took two wickets apiece, ensuring Wargrave's batters were never allowed to build sustained momentum beyond Nowduru's explosive start. Jasper Hawkins, Oliver Baker, and Viaan Choudermet each chipped in with a wicket to round off a complete team bowling effort.
In reply, the Sharks' innings followed a different pattern. The early pairs found scoring difficult against the tidy opening spells of Nowduru (3-1-10-2) and Montgomery Hick (3-0-9-1). Jessica Hawkins (1 off 7), Jasper Hawkins (4 off 16), and Isabella Partridge (8 off 17) all battled hard but wickets fell at regular intervals. Oliver Baker contributed a steady 6 from 8 balls without being dismissed, while Viaan Choudermet's unbeaten 10 from 17 balls provided valuable resistance in the middle overs.
The match was transformed by Jaiden Patel, who arrived at number seven and played the innings of the day. His 25 from 22 balls, peppered with four crisply struck boundaries, shifted the momentum decisively in the Sharks' favour. Patel remained unbeaten throughout his stint at the crease and was the only batter on either side to combine fluency with consistency. Harrison Kidd added 8 from 13 balls lower down the order to provide further support, though he was dismissed three times in the process.
The Sharks finished on 119 from their 20 overs, losing 8 wickets. With 52 extras supplementing the batters' contributions, the visitors accumulated enough to secure the win. For Wargrave, Harris Blyth (3-0-13-2) and Arthur Haynes (3-0-12-2) were the pick of the bowlers, but their efforts were insufficient to prevent the Sharks from collecting the full 20 league points from the fixture.
