Match Report

Sonning U15 Scorchers Fall Just Short in Tight Gardiner Contest

Sonning U15 Scorchers suffered a narrow defeat against Goring in their U15 Performance League Pool 4 match at Gardiner Recreation Ground, falling just six runs short of their target despite a valiant batting effort.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Goring posted a challenging total of 122-5 from their 20 overs. Captain Jack Walsh led from the front with a composed 42 from 53 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six, while Patrick Dineen provided the backbone of the innings with an impressive 51 from 51 balls, striking five fours and a maximum.

The pair combined for a crucial 106-run partnership for the fourth wicket after Sonning had reduced the hosts to 11-3 early on. Max Murphy was the pick of the Sonning bowlers, claiming 2-18 from his four-over spell, while Rayan Chib and Arthur Parkes chipped in with a wicket apiece.

Chasing 123 for victory, Sonning's opening pair Harrison Lott (12) and Sid Anilkumar (19) made a solid start with a 35-run stand before Lott was stumped by George Logan off Charlie Ruxton's bowling. Kavya Panchal then took control of the innings with a brisk 34 from 29 balls, including two boundaries and a six, forming useful partnerships with both Murphy and Rayan Chib.

Murphy contributed a patient 23 from 29 deliveries before being caught off Patrick Dineen's bowling, while Chib remained unbeaten on 17 from 15 balls as Sonning finished on 116-4 from their allotted overs.

Pip Lord was the standout bowler for Goring, claiming 2-16 from his four overs, including the crucial wicket of Panchal who was caught by Jack Taylor with Sonning closing in on victory. Charlie Ruxton (1-13) and Patrick Dineen (1-22) also picked up wickets at key moments to help restrict the visitors.

The result sees Goring claim victory by six runs in a closely contested match where Sonning's middle order showed great promise but ultimately couldn't quite get their team over the line against disciplined Goring bowling at the death.
