Match Report

U11 Sharks Chase Down Peppard Stoke Row to Claim Comfortable Victory

Sonning U11 Sharks produced a confident run chase to overhaul Peppard Stoke Row's total of 72 with some ease, posting 89 for 4 in their 16 overs at home on 2nd June in the BYCL Under 11 T16 Pairs North West league.

Peppard Stoke Row won the toss and chose to bat first, with opening pair Teddy and Rex providing a solid start. Teddy top-scored for the visitors with 15 off 26 balls, including a boundary, while Lucas proved dangerous lower down the order, striking 13 off just 12 deliveries with two fours to give the innings some late impetus. Rex contributed 7 and captain Lily Jones added 5, but the visitors struggled to build sustained momentum against a disciplined Sharks bowling attack.

Finley Andrews was the pick of the Sonning bowlers, delivering an outstanding spell of 2-0-3-0 — conceding just three runs from his two overs without a single wide or no-ball. Captain Archie Jansen was tidy at the top with figures of 2-0-9-0, while Arjun Chirunamala kept things tight with 2-0-6-0. Anay Patel, Thomas Waite, and Divik Gupta each claimed a wicket apiece, with Peppard Stoke Row losing five wickets in total. Extras proved costly for the visitors' cause, with 26 added to their total, including 20 wides.

In reply, the Sharks made a purposeful start through Jansen and Finley Andrews at the top of the order. Jansen struck 13 off 13 balls, finding the boundary twice as he set the tone for the chase. Andrews matched his captain's intent with a brisk 12 off 11 deliveries, also hitting two fours, and the opening pair ensured Sonning were well ahead of the required rate from the outset.

Arjun Chirunamala continued the momentum in the middle overs, contributing 5 off 13 balls with a boundary, while Aarib Ansari added a useful 4 and Thomas Waite and Owen Simmons chipped in with 3 apiece. The Sharks' batting effort was further boosted by a substantial 46 extras conceded by the Peppard Stoke Row attack, with 32 wides and 14 no-balls proving particularly damaging.

Lucas was the most effective bowler for the visitors, picking up 2 wickets from his 3 overs for 18 runs, while captain Lily Jones claimed a wicket with her 3 overs costing 18. Issac bowled the tightest spell for Peppard Stoke Row, conceding just 4 runs from 2 overs, including an impressive maiden.

The Sharks ultimately reached their target with relative comfort, finishing on 89 for 4 to secure the full 20 league points. It was an assured all-round team performance from Sonning, with every player contributing either with bat or ball in a well-managed victory.
