Match Report
Scorchers Post Competitive Total but Aston Rowant's Top Order Proves Too Strong
Sonning U13 Scorchers posted a respectable 140 for 3 from their 100 balls in this U13 Hundred Pool 1 fixture at Knowl Hill, but Aston Rowant's explosive top three chased the target down without losing a wicket, reaching 142 for 0 in just 66 balls.
Aston Rowant won the toss and inserted the Scorchers, and it looked a shrewd decision when Shubh Vedalankar fell for a duck in the early exchanges, bowled by Charlie Challis with the score on just 8. That brought Joseph Dowse to the crease to join opener Siddharth Kumar, and the pair steadied the innings with a composed partnership. Kumar batted with maturity, striking two fours in his 24 from 24 balls before retiring, while Dowse contributed a valuable 27 from 25 deliveries, also finding the boundary twice before retiring not out.
Captain Arnav Duvvuri then took centre stage with the top score of the innings. Duvvuri played with real fluency, cracking four boundaries in a brisk 35 from 25 balls. His partnership with Jamie Dollinger proved the most significant of the innings, the pair putting on a substantial stand that pushed the total well beyond 100. Dollinger himself offered useful support with 12 from 16 balls, including one four, and remained unbeaten at the close of the innings.
Challis was the pick of the Aston Rowant bowling attack, returning outstanding figures of 2 wickets for 10 runs from 15 balls with nine dot balls. Freddie Rowland-Clark provided good support, claiming the wicket of Henry Bright and conceding 23 from his 15 balls. A generous 40 extras, including 20 wides and 12 byes, significantly bolstered the Scorchers' total.
The Scorchers' bowlers were left chasing leather from the outset of the reply as Aston Rowant's openers set about the target with ruthless intent. Captain Kaian Eaton was devastating, smashing 53 from just 24 balls with an extraordinary eleven fours — an innings that left the Sonning attack with nowhere to hide. Muhammad Ali Sultan was equally destructive at the other end, plundering 46 from 25 deliveries with eight boundaries of his own. The pair's opening stand effectively decided the contest long before either retired.
Even after both openers departed, Viv Sharma maintained the momentum with an unbeaten 24 from 15 balls, hitting four fours to guide Aston Rowant past the target with ease. The visitors reached 142 for 0, chasing down the total without the Scorchers managing a single breakthrough.
Siddharth Kumar was the most economical of the Sonning bowlers, conceding just 8 runs from his 5 balls with two dot balls, while Shubh Vedalankar and Idris Malik also kept things relatively tight. However, the sheer quality of Aston Rowant's batting meant none of the eight Scorchers bowlers used by skipper Duvvuri could find a wicket. It was a tough afternoon in the field for the young Sonning side, who can nonetheless take heart from their batting efforts in a match where the opposition's firepower with the bat ultimately proved the difference.
