Scorchers Dominate Goring as Clinical Bowling Display Seals Comprehensive Victory

Sonning U11 Scorchers posted 124 for 6 from their 100 balls before bowling Goring out for just 50 to claim a convincing win in the U11 Hundred Pool 2 at home on 9th August.

Goring won the toss and inserted the Scorchers, but the decision backfired as the home side's batters took control from the outset. Jonathan Turner and Vivaan Ramesh laid the platform with composed knocks at the top of the order. Turner struck 16 from 25 balls, including a well-timed four, before retiring not out, while Ramesh was the standout performer with the bat, cracking 27 from 25 deliveries with four boundaries before also retiring. After a brief wobble when Seve Horton was run out without scoring and Musa Meer was bowled by Archie Williams for a duck, a 62-run partnership between the retired batters and the middle order ensured the Scorchers maintained their momentum.

Alexander Hatchett-Walker contributed a useful 11 from 15 balls before being stumped by Albert Henderson, and captain Lewis Towner added a brisk 12 from 10 balls before falling caught by Conrad Ronksley off the bowling of Toby Smith. The most explosive innings of the day, however, came from Kabir Nair Bansode, who smashed 21 from just 13 balls with four fours in a blistering cameo. His 25-run partnership with Zain Baloch for the fifth wicket pushed the total beyond the 120 mark. Baloch remained unbeaten on 6 as the Scorchers finished on an imposing 124 for 6, with 30 extras also bolstering the total.

Goring's bowlers toiled hard across the innings, with Archie Williams the pick, returning figures of 1 for 17 from 20 balls. Toby Smith (1-10) and Arthur Westropp (1-11) also claimed wickets, while Joshua Al-Bader was economical with 0 for 16 from 15 balls. However, the Goring attack struggled to contain the free-scoring Scorchers batters consistently enough to keep the total in check.

The Goring reply never gained traction against a relentless Sonning bowling attack. Ranbir Setia was the chief destroyer, claiming 3 for 9 from 20 balls with an outstanding 14 maidens — a spell of sustained accuracy that strangled the opposition. Thomas Davis was the first to fall, caught by Setia off his own bowling for 5, and Arthur Westropp followed immediately, caught by Lewis Towner off Musa Meer for a golden duck, leaving Goring 14 for 2.

The wickets continued to tumble as the visitors slid to 20 for 6. Jonathan Turner bowled opener Alby JG for 7, Vivaan Ramesh clean bowled Albert Henderson for 1, and Zain Baloch produced a devastating five-ball spell of 2 for 0, dismissing Henry Wright bowled and having Toby Smith caught by Musa Meer. Joshua Al-Bader offered the only meaningful resistance for Goring, scoring 11 from 24 balls with a four, and his 25-run partnership with Conrad Ronksley (6) for the seventh wicket briefly delayed the inevitable. But Setia returned to bowl Al-Bader and have Ronksley caught by Meer, before Kiyaan Gupta wrapped up the innings by bowling Isaac Bergvall for a duck, with Goring all out for 50.

The Scorchers' bowling effort was a genuine team performance, with ten bowlers used and wickets shared across six of them. Baloch's figures of 2 for 0 from five balls were particularly eye-catching, while Elijah Patterson (0-9 from 15 balls) and Kabir Nair Bansode (0-2 from 5 balls) also played their part in maintaining the pressure. The comprehensive 74-run victory earned Sonning five league points and underlined the depth of talent across the squad.
