Match Report

For the record Kevan Smith took five (5!!!) wickets last week against Fleet but lost out on Man of the Match to Harvey Grout.

Today’s match against Yateley was another must win and win we did. On paper it would have seemed easy but with overs reducing and two wickets left to take it was touch and go.

We were inserted, after I once again, lost the toss and we made steady progress. Andrew ‘Benjo’ Benning was resolute and made a fine 44. Naqash ‘Holding bat and watching the ball as he runs without grounding his bat’ Tahir once again struck the ball beautifully and made a well deserved 54 eventually falling to a good Yorker.

I was hoping for 270 and as Harvey ‘The Groutmeister’ Grout, struggled initially and running out of partners, 230 was going to ambitious.

The Groutmeister paced his innings very well and ably aided by Matthew ‘Reverse Sweep’ Spry took us to a formidable 280 for 8. The Meister scoring 95 not out and I was gutted he did not get to a well deserved hundred.

What was impressive about Harvey Grout’s innings is his determination to stay in and the pacing of his innings.

David Rintoul took and early wicket CAUGHT KEVAN ‘BEEFY’ SMITH (did not forget this time) who was woken up from hibernation and not walking in. All the bowlers bowled well and we won with Harvey Grout taking the last two wickets in one over after tantrums and tiaras.

My man of the match award is well considered and after weeks of excellent work continuing into this week, good and proactive advice, encouraging the team and most importantly fantastic glove work especially to a wayward Harvey Grout, Stephen ‘Hilly’ Hill is my hero/ man of the match of the week. Well done Hilly. Hilly built up pressure on the opposition from the start and his swift stumping of the most threatening batsman, changed the game and contributed to our win. Congratulations!!!

Well done Team Sonning.
