Match Report

The decision to bat first backfired as succinctly outlined by Ali in explaining the atmospheric conditions not supporting this decision especially at this time of year.

I won the toss, first in four starts, and decided to bat knowing that the first few overs were going to be difficult but would become easier. This never happened for us.

The openers struggled but battled with guts and determination. Kevan Smith was the first to go caught behind and walked. As Andrew Benning was looking set and becoming more fluent, he was unnecessarily run out.

Retief and Scott Stevens contributed but wickets fell at regular intervals and we never got into a momentum after the slow start.

Ted Baker stabilised the lower order and grittily battled for a Man of the Match 29 being out in the closing overs.

The positives we need to take from the last two defeats especially in this match is that we fought very well as a team and there was a good spirit. Ifs and buts will not change the results but we must all contribute from next week onwards.

We need to stay calm when the going gets tough and we have the calibre of players to get back on track next week. We do not need to change much to get back to winning ways.

Ten out of ten for spirit, determination and fight. Good job lads.
