Kestrels Struggle Against Disciplined Bracknell Bowling Attack

Sonning U9 Kestrels suffered a defeat at home to Bracknell United Under 9s in the BYCL Under 9 Super 8s South league at King George's Field on Wednesday evening. After Bracknell won the toss and inserted the home side, the Kestrels found run-scoring difficult against a well-organised bowling unit and were unable to post a competitive total.

Batting first in the pairs format, the Kestrels managed 57 runs from their 20 overs, losing 14 wickets in the process. The innings was bolstered significantly by 31 extras, which accounted for more than half of the total, highlighting just how challenging the Bracknell attack proved for the home batters.

Sai Sathvik Cherukuri was the standout performer with the bat for Sonning, top-scoring with 8 runs from 12 balls, including the only boundary struck by a Kestrels batter. He was the sole member of the side to remain unbeaten throughout his spell at the crease. Kabir Nair Bansode contributed 6 runs from 14 deliveries, also finding the rope once, though he was dismissed twice during his time at the wicket.

Ronith Pera added a useful 3 runs, while captain Jenu Babu, Aarav Channapatna, and Dylan Rana each chipped in with 2. Several batters found it exceptionally tough going, with Aadvik Gonchikar unable to trouble the scorers across 11 balls and falling four times — a particularly difficult spell that proved costly with the five-run dismissal penalty in operation.

Bracknell's bowling was the decisive factor in the contest. Neev Rao was the pick of the attack, returning outstanding figures of 3 wickets for 5 runs from his 3 overs, including a maiden. Rayyan Mohsin was equally impressive with 2 for 4 from 3 overs, keeping the pressure on from the other end. Ehan Rao delivered a devastating single over, claiming 2 wickets while conceding just 1 run.

Nabil A produced a remarkable spell of 2 overs, both of which were maidens, taking a wicket without conceding a single run — a superb display of accuracy at this age group. Captain Rayan Hussain also contributed with 1 wicket, though his 2 overs were slightly more expensive at 7 runs with some extras leaking through.

The Kestrels will take heart from Cherukuri's composed batting and Dylan Rana's unbeaten knock, but the side was undone by the regularity of wickets, with the dismissal penalties adding up quickly. Bracknell's disciplined bowling, particularly through Neev Rao, Mohsin, and Nabil A, ensured the visitors claimed a deserved victory and the two league points on offer.
