Match Report

Sunday As Fall Short at Peppard Common

Sonning Sunday As travelled to Peppard Common on 8th June for a friendly limited-overs fixture against Peppard Stoke Row Pandas but were unable to return home with a victory, as the hosts claimed the win on a pleasant early-summer afternoon.

Peppard Stoke Row, captained by Adam Lotery, won the right to set a target in the 40-over contest. The home side's batting lineup, which featured the experienced Dominic Hall in the middle order and wicketkeeper Louis Briggs lower down, looked to post a competitive total on their own ground, a venue where they are always difficult to beat.

The Pandas' top order of Sam Franklin and Harry Lotery laid the platform, with contributions throughout the card helping the hosts build a score that ultimately proved beyond Sonning's reach. Daniel Rogers and Ian Hambleton provided useful runs through the middle overs, ensuring the momentum never swung entirely in the visitors' favour.

Sonning's bowling attack toiled hard on a surface that offered little assistance, and despite their best efforts, they were unable to restrict the home side to a chaseable total. The lack of early breakthroughs proved costly as Peppard Stoke Row's batsmen grew in confidence as the innings progressed.

In reply, the Sunday As found the going tough against a disciplined Peppard Stoke Row bowling unit. The hosts kept the pressure on from the outset, making it difficult for Sonning's batsmen to find their rhythm and build the partnerships necessary for a successful run chase.

With the required rate climbing, Sonning were unable to mount a sustained challenge, and the Pandas closed out the match to secure a deserved victory at home. It was a clinical performance from Adam Lotery's side, who executed their game plan effectively across both innings.

For Sonning, it was a frustrating afternoon at Peppard Common, with neither bat nor ball firing consistently enough to trouble a well-organised home side. The Sunday As will need to regroup quickly, with lessons to take from an outing where they were outperformed in all departments.
