Taylor's Half-Century Powers Sonning 3rd XI to Victory at Marlow

Sonning 3rd XI secured a hard-fought win against Marlow in their Division 8B league fixture at the SAS Institute ground in Medmenham. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Sonning posted a commanding total of 266-8 from their allotted 40 overs, before restricting Marlow to 218-8 to claim victory.

Sam Taylor was the standout performer for Sonning, crafting an unbeaten 62 from just 47 deliveries, including six boundaries and two sixes. His aggressive innings provided crucial momentum in the latter stages of Sonning's innings. Shamitha Widanapathirana also made a significant contribution with a quickfire 45 from 34 balls, striking seven fours and a six before falling to Ranjan Band.

Aseem Shafi laid a solid foundation for Sonning with a patient 37 from 52 deliveries, while the lower order maintained the momentum with Jack Durrant adding an unbeaten 19. Extras were particularly costly for Marlow, conceding 42 in total including 16 wides and 10 no-balls.

Ranjan Band was Marlow's most successful bowler despite conceding 66 runs from his eight overs, claiming three wickets including the dangerous Widanapathirana. Stuart Peacock provided good support with 2-29 from his allocation, while Toby Pettit also picked up two wickets.

In response, Marlow's Daniel Gear led a spirited chase with an impressive unbeaten 71 from 78 balls, featuring nine boundaries and a six. He formed a productive 79-run second-wicket partnership with Adam Garisch, who contributed 33 from 34 deliveries before falling LBW to Hassan Shah.

Sonning's bowlers maintained disciplined lines throughout, with Jack Durrant (1-22), Hassan Shah (1-30) and Tarun Raj Ponsingh (1-24) each claiming a wicket. Despite Gear's resilient batting, Marlow struggled to keep pace with the required run rate and finished 48 runs short of their target.

The victory strengthens Sonning 3rd XI's position in Division 8B of the Thames Valley Cricket League, showcasing their batting depth and bowling discipline in a comprehensive team performance.
