Match Report
Anilkumar and Panchal Steer U15 Scorchers to Commanding Chase Victory
Sonning U15 Scorchers produced a clinical run chase at The Oratory School on Thursday evening, overhauling Peppard Stoke Row's total of 131 for 7 with more than two overs to spare and just one wicket down in this BYCL Under 15 T20 Blast West fixture.
Peppard Stoke Row captain Henry Baker won the toss and chose to bat, but his side found themselves in immediate trouble against a disciplined Sonning attack. Tom Wolfenden struck twice in the early overs, having Harry Lotery caught by Harrison Lott for a duck and then removing Baker himself for 6, caught by Ollie Terry. At the other end, Neil Jasti was virtually unplayable, bowling three overs for just one run with two maidens, clean bowling both Dominic Ellis and Daniel Rogers for ducks. At 16 for 4, Peppard Stoke Row were staring down the barrel.
The home side's recovery was built around a crucial sixth-wicket partnership of 61 between Albie Tomlinson and Alex Kind. Tomlinson ground out 34 from 47 balls with five fours, providing the anchor while Kind played with greater freedom. Neel Kumar broke the stand by trapping Scott Reyburn lbw for 2 earlier, but it was the Tomlinson-Kind axis that dragged Peppard Stoke Row back into contention. Wolfenden eventually returned to bowl Tomlinson, finishing with excellent figures of 3 for 18 from his three overs.
Alex Kind proved the most destructive of the home batsmen, striking an unbeaten 40 from just 31 deliveries with five boundaries. Harry Kind added a brisk 14 from 8 balls before falling to Ethan Towner, caught by Lott, as the home side posted 131 for 7 — a total that looked competitive given the early collapse but ultimately proved insufficient.
The Sonning reply suffered an early setback when captain Harrison Lott was bowled by Dominic Ellis for a duck with the score on just 1. That, however, was the only joy Peppard Stoke Row would find with the ball all evening.
Sid Anilkumar and Kavya Panchal combined in a match-winning partnership that took the game away from the hosts. Anilkumar, promoted to open, played the sheet-anchor role superbly, compiling an unbeaten 53 from 58 balls with six fours. Panchal was the more aggressive of the pair, racing to 50 from just 38 deliveries, lacing eight boundaries in an innings of real quality before retiring not out. Between them, they dismantled a nine-man bowling attack that had no answer to their contrasting but complementary approaches.
Jack Durrant saw the Scorchers home with a composed unbeaten 8 from 10 balls, hitting the winning runs in the 18th over to seal a nine-wicket victory. Peppard Stoke Row used all their bowling options, with Albie Tomlinson the most expensive at 21 from two overs including seven wides, but none could make inroads against a Sonning batting line-up in complete control.
The U15 Scorchers' bowling unit deserves particular credit for restricting the opposition after a dominant start. Jasti's remarkable spell of 3-2-1-2 was the standout, while Jack Durrant also impressed with tidy figures of 2-1-5-0, ensuring the required target remained well within reach.
