Match Report

Sonning U11 Scorchers Fall Short Despite Spirited Bowling Display

Tiddington Under 11s claimed a narrow victory against Sonning U11 Scorchers at King George's Field on Sunday, successfully chasing down a target of 116 with just two balls to spare in their league fixture.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Tiddington's disciplined bowling restricted Sonning to 115-6 from their allotted 20 overs. The home side's innings was characterised by a steady flow of wickets, with Tim Issitt (2-15) and William Barber (2-21) causing the majority of damage. Sonning's top order struggled, with Oscar Williams (3), Jonathan Turner (0), Zain Baloch (1), and Lewis Towner (0) all dismissed cheaply.

The middle order provided much-needed resistance for Sonning, with Jude Alden top-scoring with a patient 16 from 33 deliveries before retiring not out. Archie Jansen produced a quickfire 21 not out from just 15 balls, including four boundaries, while Vivaan Ramesh contributed a valuable 13 runs. The Sonning innings was significantly bolstered by 47 extras, with Tiddington conceding 23 wides and 10 no-balls.

In response, Tiddington's opening pair laid a solid foundation with Charlie Lamb (25 not out) and Jamie Elliott (32) putting on an impressive 71-run partnership. Elliott's innings, featuring four boundaries, set the platform for the visitors before Vivaan Ramesh sparked a mini-collapse by dismissing him and claiming two more quick wickets to finish with excellent figures of 3-6.

Nicholas Wright contributed 14 runs for Tiddington before falling to Jude Alden, who finished with 2-11 from his two overs. The middle order wobbled as Abubakar Waseem (2-8) and Jonathan Turner (1-1) maintained pressure with disciplined bowling, reducing Tiddington from a comfortable 71-0 to a precarious 103-8.

With tension mounting, Max De Rauville Ridgway (4 not out) joined the resolute Lamb to steer Tiddington to victory with just two balls remaining. Despite the loss, Sonning's bowling attack showed remarkable character, taking nine wickets and pushing the match to the penultimate delivery.

The result leaves Sonning still searching for consistency in their U11A League Pool 3 campaign, though they can take positives from their bowling performance and lower-order batting contributions. Tiddington, meanwhile, will be pleased with their opening partnership but concerned about the batting collapse that nearly cost them the match.
