U11 Sharks Post Commanding 74-Run Victory Over Kidmore End
Sonning U11 Sharks delivered a dominant all-round display at Reading Blue Coat School on 17th May, defeating Kidmore End by 74 runs in this BYCL Under 11 Challenge fixture to claim maximum league points.
After Kidmore End won the toss and elected to field, Sonning's batters set about building an imposing total. Captain Alexander Hatchett-Walker opened steadily with 8 from 10 balls before Alexander Green provided the standout innings of the match, striking a fluent 17 off just 12 deliveries, including two boundaries. Seve Horton was equally impressive at number five, cracking 12 runs from 11 balls with two fours of his own, while Niko Jordinson contributed a handy 11 from 11 balls featuring a well-timed boundary.
The Sharks' total was boosted significantly by extras, with the Kidmore End attack struggling for consistency. Harry Dunsten's three overs leaked 36 runs including 17 wides, while Butt Miles conceded 27 from his three overs with 18 wides. The away side's most economical bowler was their captain Nicholls Charles, who claimed 2 wickets from his four overs, while Mylor Harper picked up 1 wicket. In total, 88 extras swelled the Sonning innings to 177 for 4 from their 20 overs — a formidable target in pairs cricket.
Kidmore End's reply never gained momentum against a disciplined and varied Sonning bowling attack. Seve Horton was the pick of the bowlers, returning outstanding figures of 2 for 2 from his two overs, including a maiden — a remarkable spell that put the visitors firmly on the back foot early in their chase. Alexander Green complemented his batting contribution with a wicket from his three overs, conceding just 11 runs.
The wickets were shared impressively across the Sharks squad, with Savraj Sall, Arthur Teed, Jasper Hawkins and Bhuvik Rao Mane Prakashrao Santhoshrao each claiming a scalp. In total, Sonning took 9 wickets, ensuring the dismissal penalties continued to erode Kidmore End's starting total throughout the innings.
Mylor Harper offered the most resistance for the visitors with 9 runs from 21 balls, while captain Nicholls Charles made 8 from 23 deliveries and Nihaal Rakesh batted through much of the innings for 6 off 29 balls. However, no Kidmore End batter was able to accelerate sufficiently, and the away side could manage only 103 for 9 from their 20 overs — 70 of those runs coming from extras — leaving them well short of Sonning's imposing total.
It was a comprehensive team performance from the Sharks, with every player contributing either with the bat or ball. Alexander Green's all-round display of 17 runs and a wicket was the standout individual effort, while Horton's exceptional spell with the ball effectively sealed the result early in Kidmore End's innings.
