Match Report

Savraj Sall's Magnificent 37 Steers Sharks to Commanding Victory at Peppard Common

Sonning U11 Sharks produced a dominant all-round display to defeat Peppard Stoke Row at Peppard Common on Sunday, chasing down the hosts' total of 90 with considerable ease to post 138 for 4 in their 20 overs and claim a comprehensive victory in the BYCL Under 11 Challenge.

Captain Chloe Dawes won the toss and chose to field first, a decision that proved astute as the Sharks' bowling attack shared the wickets around impressively. Seve Horton set the tone with an excellent spell of 3-0-8-2, his tight lines and two early breakthroughs putting the home side on the back foot from the outset. George Davies was equally miserly, returning figures of 2-0-6-1, while Elijah Patterson delivered three overs of disciplined bowling for just six runs, keeping the pressure firmly on.

Peppard Stoke Row's innings was built around contributions from Ted Wilcox-Jones, who top-scored with 12 off 15 balls, while Jack Dugan and Otto Gilbey both made 11 apiece. However, no home batter was able to truly break free against the varied Sonning attack. Arthur Teed, Stanley Cox, Chloe Dawes, and Isabella Partridge all chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring the opposition were restricted to 90 for 7 — a total that always looked below par.

The Sharks' reply was spearheaded by the outstanding Savraj Sall, whose 37 off 28 balls was the standout innings of the match. Sall struck eight boundaries in a display of confident, clean hitting that tore the Peppard bowling apart. He was particularly severe on Otto Gilbey, whose three overs went for 29 runs as Sall peppered the boundary with authority.

Opening the batting, Chloe Dawes led from the front with a steady 10 off 15 balls, including a well-struck four, providing a solid platform at the top of the order. Jovan Purwaha then complemented Sall's fireworks with a brisk 11 off just 9 deliveries, featuring a boundary of his own, while George Davies contributed a handy 9 lower down the order.

The Peppard bowlers struggled for accuracy throughout the Sonning innings, conceding 57 extras — 35 of which came from wides alone. Freddie Armstrong's two overs included 12 wides, while Jack Dugan sent down 11 wides in his spell, gifting the Sharks runs without the bat needing to be involved. Only Ted Wilcox-Jones, the Peppard captain, managed to stem the flow, delivering a remarkable over that yielded two wickets and no runs in his solitary over with the ball.

The victory was never in doubt as Sonning's batters, backed by the generous extras tally, cruised to 138 for 4, winning by 48 runs. It was a complete team performance from the Sharks, with every bowler contributing and the batting lineup showing real depth beyond Sall's match-winning knock.
