Match Report
U9 Falcons Secure Comfortable Victory at Twyford Behind Strong Bowling Display
Sonning CC U9 Falcons travelled to Twyford and Ruscombe Cricket Club on 11 May 2026 and delivered a convincing all-round performance to claim victory in the BYCL Under 9 Super 8s Central League, posting 131 runs before restricting the home side to 107 in reply.
Twyford won the toss and elected to field, but the decision backfired as the Falcons' batting lineup made steady progress throughout their 20 overs. Captain Ahmad Naqash led from the front with a composed 12 runs from just 12 balls, striking at an impressive rate for the age group. Nathaniel Hearsey matched that tally with 12 runs of his own from 22 deliveries, finding the boundary rope twice with a pair of well-timed fours that kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely during his extended stay at the crease.
Abdul-Ahad Baig chipped in with a useful 8 from 19 balls, including a boundary, while contributions came from across the order. The Falcons were aided significantly by extras, with 87 runs coming from the Twyford attack in wides and no-balls — Hudson P proving the most expensive bowler, conceding 22 runs from two overs including 10 no-balls. Arthur Et was the most disciplined of the home bowlers, delivering two tidy overs for just 3 runs with only two wides. Agastya P claimed one of the two Sonning wickets to fall, finishing with 1-10 from three overs.
In reply, Twyford's chase never truly gathered momentum against a well-organised Falcons bowling attack. Rosie H battled gamely at number three, top-scoring with 16 runs from 51 balls in an admirable display of determination, though she was dismissed four times during her innings. Eddie C contributed 7 runs including a boundary, and Cameron G struck a four of his own during a brief knock of 5 from 8 balls, but wickets fell at regular intervals to keep Twyford well behind the required rate.
The standout bowling performance came from Abdul-Ahad Baig, who delivered a magnificent spell of 2-0-2-1 that included a maiden over — an outstanding achievement at under-9 level. His accuracy put the Twyford batters under immediate pressure at the top of the innings. George Oliver-Gee was equally impressive, conceding just a single run from his 2.2 overs while also bowling a maiden, keeping things remarkably tight.
Kayen Singh Rekhi was the pick of the wicket-takers with figures of 2-5 from two overs, while Ario Snarey also claimed two scalps, finishing with 2-8. Theodore Green added another wicket to complete a collective six-wicket haul that ensured the home side never threatened the target. Seven Twyford wickets fell in total as the Falcons shared the bowling around all ten players, giving everyone valuable match experience.
The 24-run margin of victory reflected the Falcons' superiority on the evening, with their bowling discipline proving the decisive factor. While both sides struggled with extras — a total of 175 across the match — Sonning's attack was notably more controlled, conceding 88 extras compared to the 87 they benefited from while batting, and crucially taking seven wickets to apply consistent pressure on the Twyford lineup.
