Sonning 3rd XI Frustrated as Rain Forces Abandonment at Hambleden

Sonning 3rd XI's Division 8B fixture against Bracknell United 5th XI was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Saturday 7th June at Hambleden Sports and Social Club, leaving both sides to share seven points apiece.

Captain Arun Kumar Pera had won the toss formalities only to see Bracknell skipper Saketh Chodimella call correctly and elect to insert Sonning into bat in the 40-over contest. However, the weather had other ideas, and play never got under way.

Sonning had named a full-strength eleven for the away trip, with wicketkeeper Alexander Fleming, experienced Aseem Shafi, and Toby Fitton all listed in the batting order. The side also featured Shamitha Widanapathirana, Rahul Sood, and Sam Taylor, meaning Pera had options across both batting and bowling departments.

Bracknell, led by keeper-captain Chodimella, had assembled their own competitive line-up including Raghu Pali, Akshay Ramesh, and Gopi Kolluru. With Venkata Dandu, Chirag Modi, and Chaitanya Nadipelli among their bowling ranks, there was the promise of an intriguing contest that ultimately never materialised.

The abandonment means both teams collected seven league points from the fixture, a result that will satisfy neither side as the Division 8B campaign continues. For Sonning's 3rd XI, it represents a missed opportunity to press their case in what is shaping up to be a competitive division.

Sonning will return to league action hoping for kinder skies and the chance to put their full squad to proper use.
