Match Report

IN-FORM Swindon Nalgo were no match for Premier Division pace setters Sonning who stormed to another comprehensive nine-wicket victory.

After bowling Swindon out for 135, Mark Richards then hit an unbeaten 80 for the second week running to see his side home on 139-1.

Earlier, an impressive allround bowling display was the key for Sonning who put Swindon under pressure from the first ball and watched as the Wiltshire side wilted in the heat.

Ghulam Abbas and Phil Swann played the leading roles with two wickets each, while Latif Gohar came on at the end to take 2-5 to add to the scalps taken by Anwar Ul Haq and Richard Anderson.

Mudasser Rafiq (26), skipper Shaz Khan (19) and Richard Kewell (28) were the only players to put up stubborn resistance but their meagre total was never going to be enough.

The dominant Richards and Duncan Parr (7) then put on 57 for the first wicket before Steve Roberts (27no) helped see Sonning home inside 25 overs.

Afterwards Sonning skipper Gary Phillips said: "Abbas bowled very quickly and Phil Swann was extremely accurate. Basically we gave them nothing to hit and forced them into errors."

Phillips knows that three wins and a winning draw from their last four matches should be enough for the Pound Lane side to clinch their third title in four years although second placed Ibis Mapledurham are still chasing hard.
