Stingers Cruise to Dominant 50-Run Victory Over Binfield in Indoor League Clash

Sonning Stingers Soft Ball produced an outstanding all-round display to defeat Binfield by 50 runs in the Berkshire Women's Softball Indoor Division 1 at Binfield on 5th March 2023. After being inserted following the toss, the Stingers posted an imposing 92 for 2 from their 12 overs before bowling Binfield out for just 42, claiming 11 wickets in a comprehensive team performance.

Binfield captain Alison Wade opted to field first, but the decision backfired as the Stingers' batting line-up proved too strong across the board. Chloe Bailey got the innings off to a brisk start at the top of the order, striking 15 from just 10 balls to set the tone early. Captain Elinor Longridge contributed a steady 9 from 17 deliveries in the middle order, while Sandhya Sharma (5 off 14), Amberley Taylor (4 off 7) and Sarah Wonham (6 off 11) all chipped in with useful contributions.

The standout performer with the bat was Rita Green, who played a devastating innings of 27 from just 13 balls, smashing three sixes to propel the Stingers' total past 90. Green's explosive hitting in the lower order gave the innings real impetus and ensured the target would be a challenging one. Binfield's extras column of 26 wides told its own story, with Zoe Scott (2-0-20-0) conceding 10 wides alone and Laura Hall (2-0-23-1) leaking six from her two overs.

In reply, Binfield never looked remotely capable of threatening the target. The Stingers' bowling attack was disciplined and penetrative from the outset, with wickets falling at regular intervals throughout the 12 overs. No Binfield batter managed to find any sustained rhythm, with Sophie Studd's 8 from 14 balls the top score and Laura Hall adding 7 off 14 deliveries.

Chloe Bailey was the star of the bowling effort, completing a superb all-round match with figures of 4 for 8 from her three overs. Her accuracy proved too much for the Binfield batting order, and she was ably supported by captain Longridge, who claimed 2 for 6 from her 2.1 overs. Rita Green added to her match-winning contribution with the bat by taking 1 for 11 from three tidy overs with the ball.

The scale of Binfield's struggles was evident in the dismissal count. Alison Wade was out four times in her innings of 5, while Michelle Slaughter and Frankie Rogers were each dismissed three times, with the five-run penalty for each wicket severely depleting their score. Only Zoe Scott and Sophie Studd managed to avoid being dismissed during their time at the crease.

The Stingers' victory was built on a complete team effort, with every player making a meaningful contribution across both innings. The 50-run winning margin underlined their dominance on the day, with Bailey's all-round performance of 15 runs and four wickets and Green's explosive 27 with the bat and a wicket with the ball the headline acts in a thoroughly convincing league triumph.
