Match Report

Sonning Women Secure Comfortable Victory Over Emmbrook & Bearwood at King George's Field

Sonning Women's 1st XI claimed a convincing win over Emmbrook & Bearwood in the Super 8 Development Group 4 on 10th May 2026, posting 106 for 4 from their 16 overs before restricting the visitors to 84 for 8 in reply at King George's Field.

Emmbrook & Bearwood captain Nicci De Bromhead won the toss and chose to field, but her side struggled to contain the Sonning batting lineup, conceding a remarkable 54 extras — 50 of which came from wides. The visitors' bowling attack found it difficult to maintain accuracy throughout, with every bowler contributing to the extras tally. Fiona Hardman's solitary over went for 10, all in wides, while Izzy May conceded 11 wides in her three overs.

Despite the generous extras, there were meaningful contributions with the bat across the Sonning order. Sophie Parker top-scored with a brisk 12 from 11 balls, while captain Michaela Herrett (7 off 13) and Grace Phillips (8 off 9) laid a solid foundation at the top. Belle Myers added 7 from 17 deliveries, and Elinor Longridge chipped in with 6 off 11 as the home side made full use of their 16 overs to set a challenging target. De Bromhead was the pick of the Emmbrook & Bearwood bowlers, returning figures of 1 for 16 from her three overs.

In reply, Emmbrook & Bearwood never truly threatened the target. Opener Deepa Ravi was their most productive batter with 10 off 16 balls, while captain De Bromhead contributed 9 from just 8 deliveries to give the visitors a promising start. However, wickets fell at regular intervals as Sonning's bowling attack shared the spoils effectively.

Grace Phillips was the standout with the ball for Sonning, claiming 2 for 10 from three economical overs — the most miserly figures of the match. Kira Knight matched her wicket haul with 2 for 14, while skipper Herrett picked up two wickets in her two overs, albeit at a cost of nine wides. Belle Myers bowled tidily for 1 for 11, and Hannah Brooks added another scalp to complete the team effort.

The Emmbrook & Bearwood middle and lower order found runs hard to come by, with Laura May managing just 1 from 15 balls and Katherine Brickley scoring only 4 off 14 deliveries. Lucy Prismall offered some late resistance with 6 off 11, but the visitors' total of 84 for 8 fell well short of the required 107. Extras again played a significant role, with Sonning conceding 41 — including 32 wides — though their superior discipline with the ball ultimately proved the difference.

The 22-run victory earned Sonning six league points to Emmbrook & Bearwood's one, giving the home side an encouraging start to their campaign in the Home Counties Women's Cricket League.
