Scorchers Fall 23 Runs Short as Thame Town's Tilley Steals the Show

Sonning U15 Scorchers suffered a 23-run defeat to Thame Town at Church Meadow on 14th August in their U15 Hundred Pool 4 fixture, with the hosts' captain Daniel Tilley producing a blistering 37 off just 22 balls to set a target that ultimately proved too steep.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Sonning's bowlers made an early breakthrough when Siddharth Kumar bowled Lewis Yeung for 4 with the score on just 7. However, Tilley then took control, smashing eight fours in a commanding innings that formed the backbone of a crucial 72-run second-wicket partnership. Opener Stanley Rice played a sensible supporting role, contributing 17 from 25 balls before retiring not out, but it was Tilley's aggressive stroke play that set the tone for the Thame innings.

The Scorchers fought back impressively once Tilley departed, caught behind by wicketkeeper Kanishka Suriarachchi off the bowling of Pranoy Ramankandath, with the score on 79. Thame's bowling was disciplined throughout, with Sam Holmes returning figures of 1-11 from 15 balls and Riley-Boulter claiming 2-13 from his 15. The hosts' ability to build pressure through dot balls proved decisive, conceding just 4 extras compared to Sonning's 23 in the first innings — a telling disparity that underlined the margin between the two sides on the evening.
