Match Report
U11 Sharks Demolish Hurst Rangers with Dominant All-Round Display
Sonning CC's U11 Sharks produced a commanding performance at Knowl Hill CC on 17th June, overwhelming Hurst Rangers CC by 61 runs in the BYCL Under 11 Challenge (Tier 1) North West fixture. After electing to bat first, captain Lewis Towner's side posted an imposing 104 for 2 from their 16 overs before bowling out the visitors for just 43.
Towner led from the front with the bat, striking a fluent 25 from 17 deliveries, an innings punctuated by four crisp boundaries. The skipper set the tone at the top of the order alongside opener Jonathan Turner, who contributed a brisk 16 off 13 balls including two fours. Zain Baloch added further impetus with 13 off 10 balls, ensuring the Sharks built a formidable platform in the early overs.
The middle and lower order all chipped in with useful contributions. Jacob Garner and Chloe Dawes both added 6 runs apiece, while Ved Patwa matched that tally from the number eight position. Kiyaan Gupta weighed in with 5, meaning the Hurst Rangers attack found no respite throughout the innings. The opposition bowlers struggled with their discipline, conceding 27 extras including 16 wides, with Oscar Gray (1-1 from one over) the only bowler to emerge with any credit.
The Sharks' bowling attack then produced a devastating display to dismantle the Hurst Rangers batting line-up. Zain Baloch was virtually unplayable, returning extraordinary figures of 6 for 3 from his two overs, tearing through the opposition order with remarkable consistency.
Isabella Partridge was equally impressive, claiming 4 for 8 from three overs including a maiden, while Kiyaan Gupta took 3 for 2 from his two overs to ensure there was no escape for the Hurst Rangers batters. The wickets were shared around the attack, with Towner picking up 2 for 15, and Jacob Garner, Chloe Dawes, and Ved Patwa each claiming a wicket to complete a thoroughly collective bowling effort.
Hurst Rangers found run-scoring extremely difficult against the disciplined Sonning attack. Oscar Gray top-scored with 8 off 10 balls, while Ethan Evans managed 7 from 14 deliveries — the only two batters to pass five runs. Captain Dylan Bayliffe was restricted to just 1 from 10 balls, and the visitors lost a total of 21 wickets across their 16 overs as the Sharks' bowlers repeatedly broke through.
The comprehensive victory underlined the strength in depth of the U11 Sharks squad, with every player making a meaningful contribution across both innings. Garner's tight spell of 2-1-2-1 with the ball complemented his handy 6 with the bat, typifying the all-round commitment that carried Sonning to a thoroughly deserved 20-point haul in the league standings.
