Abbas takes seven scalps as Sonning collect title

SONNING collected their fourth Premier Division title in six years after securing a winning draw against Sandhurst last weekend.

Sonning only needed 10 points to secure the championship and they had little trouble in picking up the required amount after winning the toss and electing to bat.

They racked up 24 points in total, although they couldn't finish their fantastic season with a victory as battling Sandhurst hung on for a draw.

Sonning made 198-7 in their innings thanks to 49 from Pete Whitmore and Sandhurst were always struggling in reply against the pace of Ghulam Abbas.

Abbas ripped through the visitors' batting line-up to finish with figures of 7-26, but despite his efforts Sandhurst managed to hold on at 116-9.
