Match Report

Greys Green Outclass Sonning in Sunday Friendly at King George's Field

Greys Green Cricket Club secured a convincing victory against Sonning Sunday As at King George's Field, successfully defending their first innings total of 208-5 after Sonning captain Charles Astwood elected to field first upon winning the toss.

While details of Greys Green's batting performance were sparse in the scorecard, their impressive total of 208 runs from their allotted 40 overs proved more than enough to secure the win. Mohammed Shafqat and Luke Jenkins remained not out at the conclusion of their innings, setting a challenging target for the home side.

Sonning's chase got off to a disastrous start, losing opener William Travers for just 1 run to the bowling of Gurvinder Singh. The home side continued to struggle against a disciplined Greys Green attack, slumping to 21-4 with captain Charles Astwood (12), Maaz Salman (5), and Joshua Jones (1) all departing cheaply.

The fifth-wicket partnership between Stephen Pollard and Callan Shah briefly steadied the innings, adding 55 vital runs before Pollard was caught by Peter Dawkins off Luke Jenkins' bowling for 17. Shah continued to play with determined resistance, reaching a well-crafted half-century that featured seven boundaries.

Kabir Dave contributed a brisk 19 runs from 26 deliveries including four boundaries before falling LBW to Greys Green captain Mohammed Shafqat. Shah's dismissal for 51, caught by Andrew Rugg off Gurvinder Singh's bowling, effectively ended Sonning's hopes of victory with the score at 113-7.

Marcus Martin provided some late resistance with an unbeaten 20 from just 16 balls, including four boundaries, but with Siobhan Davis dismissed for 6 and Isaac Blakey left not out on 5, Sonning's innings closed on 149-8 from their 40 overs, falling 59 runs short of their target.

Gurvinder Singh was the standout bowler for Greys Green, returning exceptional figures of 2-7 from seven overs including four maidens. He received good support from Andrew Rugg (1-32), Hari Hender (1-22), Luke Jenkins (1-24), Mohammed Shafqat (1-28) and Hasnat Shafquat (1-15) in a well-rounded bowling performance that secured a comfortable victory for the visitors.
